The VRAM is unimportant with those GPUs, when 2 GB are full the (extremly weak) 920 will already be way beyond its limits...
Yeah, but dedicated GPU is still better than no dedicated at all, right?
And my main question is, is a 4GB dedicated Dell better than a 2GB dedicated Asus, or the Asus can compete (read "be on par") with the Dell?
-
Hello guys,
I'm in the process of looking for a new laptop, and two caught my attention : the Dell Inspiron 15 (7000 series I believe) and the Asus X455LJ
Both have similar specs, the only difference being the dedicated GPU: the Dell has 4GB dedicated, while the Asus has 2GB dedicated (and I think it's the same GPU). I know the solid reputation of Asus, but, in this case, is it worth the difference in term of dedicated graphics?
I'm putting a link comparing the two laptops : http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/compare-result.aspx?ProductIds=10377664%2C10384057&returnPath=%2FSearch%2FSearchResults.aspx%3Fpath%3Dca77b9b4beca91fe414314b86bb581f8en20%26filter%3Dcategory%253aComputers%2B%2526%2BTablets%253bcategory%253aLaptops%2B%2526%2BUltrabooks%253bcurrentoffers0enrchstring%253aOn%2BSale%26Lang%3Den-ca%26icmp%3Dlaptops_hero2across_all_on_sale_en
For an all-purpose laptop, which one best suits me?

Ok, so my problem is fixed
The mod that was causing the problem is the Romfarer Laser Mod
So, if you encounter that problem, you just have to remove it and you'll be fine
-
So, my problem is that, after I clicked on the "Launch" button of the VAB or the SPH, and after the physic loaded, the screen goes black, as it was suddenly the night. Here are some screenshots to show my problem:

I still have a certain control, like toggling the SAS or the RCS, but I cannot move around the vessel or activate the next stage
I must say that it must be daytime, not nighttime
Having the Steam version, I ran a check of the integrity of the game file and I also uninstalled then reinstalled the game
My mods are:
Custom Asteroids
Distant Object (Enhancer)
Kerbal Foundries
Hyperedit (updated)
kommit_nucleonics
KWRocketry
MagicSmokeIndustries (updated)
NavBall Docking Alignment Indicator
Procedural Fairings (updated)
Protractor (updated)
Romfarer Laser Mod
SCANsat
Throttle Controlled Avionics
Trigger Tech (updated)
Waypoint Manager (updated)
Module Manager 2.6.1
The computer I'm using is a 64-bit Windows 7
EDIT : the second image (starting from above) should be a view of the KSC (where you select the VAB, the SPH or the Mission Control)

I don't name them, I use them
-
I name my vessel according to where they go with gods names of different mythology, with few exceptions:
Moho : Egyptian Mythology
Eve : Pre-Columbian Mythology
Duna: Hindu mythology
Jool: Greek/Roman mythology
Dres: Celtic mythology
Eeloo, Kerbol and beyond : Norse mythology
Kerbin and moons : everything else and whatever that comes to my mind
In fact, I launched so few missions (especially to Moho and Eve) that this system is still not systematic. Also, I say I have some exceptions, like for my mapping missions, which is named Atlas, my system of "Stargate" (a kind of hyperspace endpoints that must be set into space) named Janus, "the god of beginnings and transitions, and thereby of gates, doors, doorways, passages and endings", and other missions that don't follow this system (like my IOn Motor EXperiment probe)

Finally, screenshots are unecessary, because I just tought about updating FAR yesterday...
Now my planes are flying well again
Sorry for the inconvenience.
-
As I said before, two previous planes flew perfectly well before; I barely change something in term of CoM, CoL and Cot.
I made a plane from scratch; it was slow but it flew well just before the Big Rip
It's only a matter of when I reach a certain speed, a certain altitude OR even a certain time that my planes get ripped apart. I thought about a brutal movement, but it wasn't because it also get torn when I wasn't pressing any key
The intial symptoms sound like you're using FAR, but if your certain the install is stock, we need more info, specifically images.Yes, I'm using FAR
-
Hello everyone,
So I'm having some troubles with my planes. In previous versions (0.23, didn't have time to fly planes in 0.24 and 0.25), my planes flew perfectly well, having no troubles midair. But now, it gets torn apart during their fligth, supposedly because of a structural failure between two parts of the fuselage (cockpit, fuel, cargo bay). I didn't change anything on my planes, except the wings, because the previous one were getting in the ground after the loading of the plane for the "launch" (but were still considered as being part of the plane). So what's the problem?
Also, my planes seem to take the entire runway for takeoff, even my lightest design, wich is unprecedented for this latter
-
Well, do you have a planet (or a moon) which you totally forgot it was here, thus you have never visited? Mine is Dres, I have never sent anything, neither tried to send something there. It is only now I'm sending a manned mission to this planet...
What's yours?
-
So far, I have:
a refuel station at 140 km,
a mapping probe that is going to Eve,
my Janus 0 probe in keostationnary orbit,
my Janus 1 probe in Kerbol orbit between Moho and Eve,
my Janus 2 probe in direction of Jool to place a hyperspace endpoint and
a manned mission to Dres (finally ),

Hello world!
I saw on Steam that the Midweek deal is Space Engineer at 33% off. Since its gameplay is similar to KSP, I wonder : should I buy it? Or shouldn't I?
-
And I want to have a Delorean DMC-12 with 1,21 GW of power to do it
More seriously, I know I have to go in the persistent.sfs file and change a line of code. Is that one?
FLIGHTSTATE
{
version = 0.23.0
UT = 17517503.8502323
activeVessel = 0
If the UT is in seconds, and I want to go back 30 days, do I have to do 17 517 503.8502323 - (3600sec/hour * 24hour/day * 30days) = 2 592 000.8502323, the result being the new UT?

I found the origin of the problem: a file in the Plugins folder. Seems like one of my addon is the cause of the unability of naming my spacecrafts.
So far, my plugins are:
cart.dll
CleverBobCat.dll
FerramAerospaceResearch.dll
Firespitter.dll
HyperjumpSystem.dll
ISA_MapSat.dll
MuMechLib.dll
And in the Plugin Data folder (which is a sub folder inside the Plugins folder) :
Ferram Aerospace Research (config.xml)
Isa_MapSat (guiTextures file, hilo.dat, and 3 .png that is the map of Kerbin)
MuMechLib (MechJeb.cfg)
protractor (config.xml and two .png pictures)
Do you know if any of these files can cause the problem?
-
You'll need to save and transfer your save game's data. It's probably best to take the whole directory over. Do you have *any* mods installed?
Indeed I have mods installed, but what about the option "Backup Game Files" of Steam?
-
I don't know about the inability to name your spacecraft (sounds like a bug) but as far as your Kerbals go, if you switch crew, and then make a change to your rocket before launch it will reset the crew assignment. A good thing to do right before launch is to check your staging and check your crew assignment then hit the launch button.
OK, thanks!
Try exiting and restarting KSP for the name problem. If that doesn't work you might reinstall it. One thought if it never worked: are you using a localized version of windows? Maybe KSP hasn't been localized for your language?I ran into that Kerbal switch too very annoying I hope they change it so the previous chosen Kerbal is the default.
I think I will reinstall it. With Steam, will my saves and my spacecrafts be kept in their states (I have one spacecraft that is going to Moho and my career mode is going pretty well)?
And Voculus, no, I don't have the Ubio Welding Mod. But thanks for the help
-
Hello guys,
I will be very straightforward: I can't name my spacecraft when I am in the VAB. There is no box above where we can give a name to our creations; and when I click at the place where this box should be, a rectangle appears, but I can't do anything
Can someone help me?
Also, still in the VAB, I want to switch Kerbals, but when I'm on the lauchpad, the previous Kerbal is still there, instead of the new one
Can someone help me? (and sorry for my English )

What would be the optimal inclination in Jool's orbit if we want to visit its moons in equatorial orbit without spending too much dV in matching the orbital inclination of the visiting body, taking into account all the other moons, their inclination and their distance relative to Jool? (Damn, this was a long question )
-
Ah, indian gods... I thought about these one, but when I learned there are over 30 millions gods in this religion, I somehow gave up. But big thanks for these links
-
Since most of the (US) rockets/lauchers are named after deities (Atlas, Thor(-Agena)) or mythical creatures (Centaur, Titan), I decided to name my rockets in KSP after gods from several mythologies. I searched gods with name that inspire power and/or with functions that match the rocket one. For example, if I make a rocket to Moho, I could name it Hephaestus, since it's the god of metalworking and thus, the heat.
Until now, here's some gods which particularly interested me:
Heimdallr, guardian of the bridge that separates the human world and the Asgard
Baldr, a well-beloved god of the Asgard
Hermod, messenger of the god (the equivalent of Hermes in the Asgard)
Athena, goddes of wisdom, science and arts
Hephaestus
Poseidon, god of the sea, earthquakes, storms and horses
Qetesh, goddess of fertility
Thoth, god of knowledge and wisdom
Atljira, sky god of the Arrernte people (Aboriginal)
Bagadjimbiri, 2 creator gods (who are brothers)
Eingana, creator goddess, mother of all water, animals and humans
Karora, creator god
Ranginui, sky god (maori)
Tangaora, polynesian god of the Oceans, sea and fishes (like Poseidon)
Orenda, iroquoian spirit
This is a (very) short list of gods that interested me so far. I didn't have the time to do an extensive search, but do you have any that could have easily made this list? It will be very appreciated

Putting fuel tank under the engine...
Advice on the Lenovo IdeaPad 500?
in The Lounge
Posted
I'm in the process of buying a new laptop, and I found the Lenovo IdeaPad 500 with a pretty good deal. However, I did not find any review on it, so I rely on you, fellow Kerbalnauts, to know if it's a go or no-go. I also have a few, more-or-less important, questions:
First of all, its ram is 8.0GB PC3L-12800 DDR3L 1600 MHz (SODIMM). Is it upgradable, and is it 1 or 2 ram slots?
Is the keyboard backlit?
What is the screen type (TN or IPS) and how the colors are displayed (crisp images or dull one)?
I thank you in advance for the answers :)
