  1. Howdy folks Just thought I'd share my experience with this game and my first successful missions I've recently had. Back when I first got KSP (maybe a bit less than a year ago, I think it was .21? Whatever was before career mode came out), all I was able to do then, and for many months after career mode came out, was play in sandbox. Even then I struggled building things that had enough juice and stability to get me to the Mun and Minmus (don't even think about other planets!) After having used Mechjeb a few times, I had a really good idea what needed to happen to get me to the Mun, and land there and such but I struggled a lot with insufficient builds and/or insufficient piloting skills. I would play in Career mode but it would only last a few hours before I would not be able to progress any further. Two weeks ago or so I started watching Scott Manley's Interstellar Quest series and paying a whole lot more attention to what he was doing as he was doing it and all the sudden things clicked. I started a new Career save. As of last night I have now launched (w/o Mechjeb!) successful missions to both the Mun (1 manned, 1 probe) and Minmus (twice manned, 1 probe), have launched a 'satellite' on a polar orbit around Kerbin and another around the Mun... I even built my first successful (though a little unstable) plane, that I actually flew and was able to land. And finally, have started to assemble a space station at roughly 500km. So far I have two launches to it, one to put my 'habitation' module in orbit and a second run with the 3 person pod to deliver Jeb to his new temporary home and to try my hands at an unassisted rendezvous and docking. It took me a long time to meet with and dock the pod to the station, but I got it done! Next up are some escape pods, a science processing module and fueling stations. I am using Kerbal Engineer, Chatterer, Kerbal Alarm Clock, Vanguard Parachute, Procedural Fairings and one of the Atmosphere enhancement mods to make Kerbin look better (Forget the name off hand)
  2. Heck.. I've got ~100 hours in this game and I still struggle with getting into orbit sometimes. Lifesupport would be cool as an option later on, but for me right now it'd be a game killer if it were forced on me.
  3. This is just awesome! Thanks for the story, am really enjoying it!
  4. Is there a bigger copy of this image available?
  5. Here I am, struggling to get a simple lander to the Mun (don't even suggest trying to get back!) Awesome stuff!
  6. Cool blog! I love how you made the pics b/w and added noise... they look great! Blogging is an addition of mine, almost as bad as gaming. Keep at it!
  7. I think this is one of the great parts of this game, at least in its current form; you play by your own ruleset. You devise your own missions/quests. You define what is and is not good for your own space program.
  8. I made my first successful landing on the Mun last night. Did an EVA just over the ridge and into the next crater and I discovered it was wide enough and flat enough that it appeared the bulk of KSC could have probably fit in it. I think they got the Mun just right.

    Howdy!

I decided to go ahead and start fresh, now that I have a better idea of what is going on and set myself a few goals. Once again I have a few Kerbals stranded in space but this time they are stranded on purpose, in an orbit around Kerbin (instead of some crazy huge orbit around the sun) on a space station I made (and took about 6 hours to successfully get it into space!) I had a goal to get some kerbonauts out there and not be able to get them back with out a followup mission including some docking or at least a rendezvous. (Edit: it gives me another goal, something to learn) I wrote up a little bit of a mission log here, if anyone is interested: http://cruciblegaming.com/ksp/kerbals-stranded-in-space/

    Howdy!

Been wanting to try this game for a while, but was hesitant for some reason. Noticed there was a demo available on Steam last night and downloaded it. Bought the full version within about 20 minutes. I'm absolutely having a blast (punny!) Messing around last night I managed to get a pod with three Kerman in it to escape planetary orbit and dummy me, not only did I have no idea how to get them home, but once I read up enough I realized it'd be a fairly easy process...had I sent some fuel and engines up with them attached to their pod! lol
