I would recommend checking out the Dynasat Satellite Mod for info on detecting where Kerbol (Kerbin\'s Star) is. The map has some way of knowing the distance between bodies, so there must be a hook for it somewhere in the SDK. Hope this helps because I love the idea of solar sails.
