Work has started on the new engines:
The first public release will include fuel tanks, decouplers/shrouds and engines (about half the planned parts).
-
I've been having problems with normal maps so I made a post:
http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/20457
Any help is appreciated.

Here's how my normal map looks in Unity:
Here's how my normal map (doesn't) look in KSP:
Here's the texture, normal and obj files:

As far as I can tell, the red channel on the normal map is being ignored, so the vertical ridges in the normal map aren't showing up. I checked the other parts I've done recently (fuel tanks), and the same problem occurs with them, though it isn't as noticeable.
I've tried everything I can think of and everything I've seen suggested here in the forums (such as inverting the green channel).
I'm all out of ideas.

All the fuel tanks are done and I've started work on the interstage/fairings.
When those are done, I'll be moving on to the engines.
-
is there an ETA on this stuff?
Not at this stage.
Does this mean better compatibility between stock and Ausplane parts? Some of the stuff there wasn't very well balanced...Let me know what issues you have and I'll try to address them in the remaster.
Ausplane controls are crazy when I fire up the aerospike engine...using 0.16...ANyone else having this problem?
The Ausplane, like the Space Shuttle, isn't designed for powered flight in an atmosphere. In fact, it's not even aerodynamically stable unless the fuel tank is empty.

I feel I can't say this enough times, I love the Soyuz like parts, please don't forget them
They're on my list.
Will ausplane be featuring in downunder remastered?Yeah, but I'm going to finish all the other parts first.
Slew still lives! :dance:Is it possible for you to update the Mei Long? I'd love it as a two-man Pod, with .16 compatibility.
That's the plan!
-
could we get some pics, please?
This is how they appear in Unity:
I'll take some more (in-game) pictures later. I have to go to bed now.
-
Alright, all the standard sized fuel tanks are now done! That includes the X-4, the GH-14, the GH-Super and the brand new X-8 (which you've already seen).
Kreuzung's speculation was pretty much spot on: the X-8 is a Down Under equivalent of the stock FL-T400.
Down Under Remastered will replicate the functionality of some stock parts in order to create a consistent visual style. This is a change from the previous versions.
Glad to see you back. Here is a link on how to add .16 functionality to pods (sort of works on non-pods too) http://kspwiki.nexisonline.net/wiki/Adding_Airlocks_and_Ladders_to_PartsIf you need any further help getting used to the new modtools just hop on ksp IRC and me or someone else will be glad to help you out.
Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Good news, everybody!
The first part for Down Under Remastered* is now functional in KSP.
Here's what it looks like:
*Down Under: Next Generation if you like
-
Alright, everybody. I'm back.
The success of the MSL landing has given me a new dose of enthusiasm.
Here's the word: Down Under is getting remastered. Details soon.
-
Well this last week was exciting! I released an iPhone game.
-
Hum, some winglets and silvertape solved the tilting problem... Slew, it is possible to create a space capsule with built-in parachutes? And a parachute part that open 3 parachutes at the same time?
You can make a capsule look like it has built-in parachutes, but it still has to be a separate part.
A part that opens 3 parachutes is pretty easy, and it\'s been done before (someone else can probably find a link).
I was going to do a parachute part for 0.5, except mine was going to be a bunch of balloons.
---
By the way, I know it\'s been a long time since the last Down Under update. Don\'t worry, I haven\'t forgotten KSP!
I\'ve just been busy on another project on iPhone.
-
The highest of fives, C7!
-
I know it\'s been a long time since you posted this, but just wanted to let you know that I\'ve made a plugin that allows telescoping/rotating/folding/moving in any way you want/ landing legs.
You\'re my hero, sarkun.
-
I noticed that the Mei Long capsule resembles the SpaceX Dragon capsule. Mei Long means 'beautiful dragon' in mandarin.
Coincidence? I think NOT!
-
I have a question/comment on the 2m motor provided. Namely it wobbles as jelly when it\'s holding up the stack. Suggestions/Question: Fix the cfg for the next release and what value(s) should I change to make it so?
Yeah, that bug annoys me.
I think it got worse when I did the CoG changes back in 0.1.2, so I\'m going to try moving the CoG around to see what happens.
-
Well I decided what I\'m going to do first:
Rather than replace the Mei Long, I\'m going to give it an update.
-
I want a decorative 2M nosecone for attaching to the top of side-mounted 2M fueltanks, and the like.
I\'ve been making do by using the 2M -> 1M fairing... but it just looks odd.
Purely cosmetic, of course.
Good idea.

APOLLO LANDER LEGS
You really love those legs, don\'t you?
An animated landing leg that unfolds from a small storage box. Like in the pic.
Unfortunately, landing legs can only pivot about one axis as far as I can see.
Otherwise I\'d be updating the hell out of the Mei Long LLV (which is supposed to have folding/telescoping legs).
-
Well, let\'s talk about what we want next.
I want to do a parachute part (stackable), a 2m stack decoupler (not a shroud) and a SRB nosecone with separation motors (hell yes). I\'m also thinking about a new all-in-one capsule/lander (with animated landing gear) to replace the Mei Long.
So what do you want in Down Under 0.5?

Launch vehicle is now available for download.
-
Heya, Any update on the Launch Vehicle for the Ausplane? 8)
Yeah, it\'s coming soon.
I\'ve got a design that works, I just need to make it a bit easier to fly.
I reckon your 'hd' textures should be your standard ones.
I like to keep the file size down as much as possible.
The HD texture pack is almost as big as the entire Down Under pack together.
-
The texture pack with designs by Luigibro606, RedDwarfIV, PD, Rico88 and Tomokatu is now released.
-
HD Texture Pack is now available.
It includes HD textures for both orange and black heatshields as well as five livery variants (also in orange and black).
Thanks to Luigibro606, RedDwarfIV, PD, Rico88 and Tomokatu for their designs.

I've repaired the first post, so links should be working again (let me know if anything is broken).
I've also added a parts list for version 0.6. Sorry this update is taking so long!
