  1. The part needs to be the first part of its kind activated on the spacecraft, apparently. I had 2 couplers of the same kind already used for other stages. Maybe this should be clarified somewhere in the description.
  2. Hi! I was trying the contract in which I need to test a decoupler during flight on Kerbin. Although all conditions were green/checked, I staged the decoupler and nothing happened Is it a known bug? Working for everybody else? Best Peter
  3. Hi! I was working for some time on a the Kerbal version of NASA's ARM mission. I wanted to recreate it as close as possible to the original. Here is the album: http://imgur.com/a/ilCv8 The mission is split in two parts: The first part is about a small robotic craft intended to redirect an asteroid and park it in lunar orbit. The second part of the mission features an Orion spacecraft that rendezvous with the asteroid. I used only one mod for the fairings. What do you think?
  4. Damn! Wanted to do the same but you were faster! I really love your approach. Some remarks: - The SLS is only used to launch the redirect vehicle into a direct lunar gravity assist. For earth orbit insertion an Atlas V is used. (see this NASA PDF page 19) - I think you missed the upper stage of the second SLS launching the Orion craft! See here for inspiration Else: Well done! Here is a shot of my first attempt. Best Peter
  5. Ah, I’m stupid, I found my problem. I was trying to approach Mun heads-on, which resulted in those huge delta-v. As you said, a grav assist around Kerbin helped. Like this: Thanks!
  6. Hi folks! I was reading the NASA Asteroid Redirect reference files and wanted to capture an asteroid NASA style! They plan to capture a fairly small rock and put it into a retrograde orbit around the moon. Later a SLS with an Orion spacecraft launches and rendezvous with the asteroid in moon orbit. Here is a PDF for the capture process, scroll to page 9. And here is a description of the rendezvous, on page 6. My problem is to put the asteroid in the retroorbit. I simply don’t get the part with the lunar gravity assist. Each time I approach Mun I am confronted with 800+ Delta-v to compensate in order to not overshoot. Has anybody ideas about this grav assist? Thanks a lot in advance!
  7. Yes, I was also thinking about NovaPunch. Reduces part count a lot and looks real high quality. You think 5 m parts will be added one day as stock? Heard of any plans? * installing NovaPunch *
  8. Hi all! Usually for my rockets I take real world rockets as a reference, measure the real ones, convert the size to 1/2 and rebuild them as closely as possible in Kerbal. Looks nice and realistic, I like it. This 1/2 scale worked really nice for Delta and Falcon sized rockets. Unfortunately this scale doesn't work out with huge Saturn sized rockets. There are no parts big enough to match the Saturn main tank. Stitching Rockomax tanks together looks a bit hackish. Using a 1/4 scale works for big rockets but produces really small toy rockets (?). So I wondered – has anybody scratched his head about this? What do you think is the scale the developers were thinking of in Kerbal? Rebuilding real world rockets in 1/2 Scale + Rockomax parts match the Falcon or Delta rocket bodys (~5m). Also Space Shuttle Boosters would be this size. + Small parts match Delta boosters (~2,5m) for example but are rather useless except from this. + The Kerbelnaut count matches with real world astronaut count on most missions. – No parts are big enough in diameter for Saturn or Space Shuttle Main Tank sized rockets (~10m). Rebuilding real world rockets in 1/4 Scale + Rockomax parts match the Space Shuttle Main Tank and Saturn main rocket (~10m). + Small parts match Delta and Falcon style rockets (~5m). + The solid rocket boosters of Kerbal would match the real world counterparts (~5m). – This scale produces really small rockets. Most mission will be 1-Kerbal missions. Best, Peter
