Planet Ideas And Names For The Future Of Kerbal Space Program
Black_sod replied to Dead Pixel's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I think I'd like some sort of Titan equivalent, larger than Moho, with atmosphere and ludicrously low temperatures with lakes of hydrocarbons, (which could be used for fuel for colonies or something?). I like the proposed submarine nasa have been talking about and would love some planets to send some submersible craft to explore -
Hi all! Wondering if anyone here has taken part in a challenge based KSP competition? The computers society and astronomy society are working together to host a competition for all comers. I'm super excited and was just wondering if anyone had any experience with something like this and could give me some prep advice? Thanks I'm already working on Vtol Ssto's as it was hinted that they'd be part of at least one challenge

same goes for me!! start all over though i'm keeping my mucking-around sandbox save

What life looks like on other planets? (scientific discussion)
Black_sod replied to tetryds's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Just want to point out that this isn't MY definition of life, merely what I have been taught as the stance of biologists. I consider virus' to be alive, an AI? Depends I'd have to meet it first. reproduction I maintain is something key to the definition of life. I remember seeing some programme about this which alluded to forms of life as exotic as clouds of gas particles in a gas giant, or in an Ian Banks book he briefly describes organisms that life along plasma streams in stars also why not space-whales /krakens -
In a previous file he had just stepped out onto the surface of eve.. when Bill fell down a latter and flattened him.. unfortunate to say the least

checked all above coordinates and there's no sign dunno what's wrong! -
putting the wheels in a separate part under the modules is brilliant, I'd had trouble making sure that the clamps between modules were at the right height!! thanks a lot!!

one of my biggest face-palm moments in a long while
Black_sod replied to Black_sod's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
yeah I later realised that when one engine didn't have fuel and the other two did.. horribly asymmetrical .. had to google it though had only seen it in videos -
one of my biggest face-palm moments in a long while
Black_sod posted a topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
It was my first mission aimed at landing on Moho, all was going to plan. I reckoned I had enough fuel to decelerate and be captured by it and to land my three brave pioneers on the surface. I came close to my periapsis and started my 5 or so minute burn. the engines cut out after ten seconds.. WHAT?! I start to panic, clicking and unclicking resources, fuel tanks anything! then I see that the central tank is fully fueled.. but the tanks with engines are completely empty.. I hadn't placed fuel lines... There was nothing for it but to spam science before the craft got slung out into deep space so devastating -
I'm a vet who's been trying very hard to avoid planes the bane of my existence. I've always found a way to get rockets to do a planes (job more or less). I'll definitely look ya up if i decide to branch out

thanks guys! I will try all of the above and report back -
was just wondering if adding a certain thickness of a dust layer to certain bodies would be feasible or desirable? rovers could leave tracks in it and/or be slowed down by having to push through it. was (trying to ) drive a rover on pol and thought more friction would have helped with control. just an idea, entirely possible it would be too demanding to simulate

What would you build with Saturn's rings?
Black_sod replied to Latcarf's topic in Science & Spaceflight
while we're at it, moving mars into a jupiter orbit would give it the benefit of a magnetic field to protect the new atmosphere... although it'd then be a bit chilly.. use the rest of the rings to make a reflective dish to increase sunlight on mars in it's new orbit! marvelous -
Elon Musk : "Retire on Mars" : feasible?
Black_sod replied to BrickedKeyboard's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Would it nearly be easier to build habitats in cylindrical satellites in orbit that spin for gravity, have an enclosed environment and as much power as they need from the sun? food could be grown there/in sepparate modules or just sent up the odd time... don't see why we should make a huge leap towards mars. Or at least before we have invented space elevators -
What life looks like on other planets? (scientific discussion)
Black_sod replied to tetryds's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It could look like anything. All life on earth is descended from some extremely primitive cell with (probably) some sort of RNA for passing on genetic information. (it's been shown that certain clays cause RNA to polymerise which is an intriguing hint to it's origin. anyway since everything is descended from this it makes sense for it to be similar. whose to say some other form of molecule couldn't be used to transfer genetic info. our life is carbon based. maybe other life forms are based in silicon or sulfur? it also depends on what you define as "alive" . Viruses are considered as non living. because they can't reproduce on their own. there's 7 characteristics ( i think) necessary to call something alive. response respiration nutrition reproduction excretion growth.. the other one is escaping me , oh well. fascinating topic btw -
Hey Daniel! I'm new here too! I'm from Mayo in the West

Hey guys, new on the forum, thought I'd introduce myself. I've been playing the game since the Mun was the only place to aim for (and hitting it was a significant achievement for me). Completely in love with this game!

hey, I was trying to find the kraken and after failing for hours i looked for coordinates. I arrived at the ones in your post, which are corroborated by other sources.. and no Kraken? is it possible my settings for graphics are causing a problem? or a glitch perhaps? or am I missing something... I'm at 68 north and 242 west approx. any help would be awesome
