  1. First off, it's called taxiing (taxi) not taxing (tax). Second why would you do this? What would the game play benefits be?
  2. The difference is the game will crash if too many mods are installed and the game may crash (on an arbitrary click). @JohnFX Texture management sounds better but swapping out textures biased on available RAM sounds like it could lead to plenty of errors down the line. The devs are great and all, but they are only human (AFAIK). Also how would texture swapping work if you played on the low graphics settings? Although if I saw an example of it being done well elsewhere then that sounds awesome.
  3. Now you've handed memory management to the user. One click too many and their game crashes. It's one thing to expect a user to know: Too many mods -> Game doesn't work. Its another expect them to know: Too many mods -> Game doesn't work if I select an arbitrary set of parts. I.E *add part*, *add part*, *add part*, *add part*, *Crash* OR *add part*, *add part*, *add part*, *add part*,*add part*, *add part*, *add part*, *add part*,*add part*, *add part*, *add part*, *add part*, *Crash*. The unless the user works out which mods they're currently using and the memory requirements of each of those mods is they won't know when their game will fail. Also on the fly memory management is low level and a ball-ache. It's likely to cause plenty of bugs and shift error prevention to the user at run time.
  4. I lol'd. I'm sure this has been asked for before but it would be a nice feature to have for various reasons.
  5. I think the stock parts are fine, but saying that since you can edit a config file makes this a moot point is IMO a bit daft. I for one don't want to spend time messing with the config file because I don't like the balance of a game, I just want to play the game. Also not everyone could/wants to/will try to edit there config file.
  6. ^^This I think the new engines are fine, maybe you could put them later in the tech tree or have them cost more in career. But just like other updates that have introduced new parts this update has just changed how the mainsail will/can be used. The mainsail might not be used with the iconic orange tank anymore, as a heavy lifter engine, but it still could be useful with smaller tanks in a rockets higher stage. You might just need lots of power, very quickly, such as an emergency redirection or just for the lulz, the mainsail is this in spades, one great big umph of thrust. The mainsail's not dead, it's just moved job.
  7. I managed to dock with an asteroid on my first try but it was really, really inefficient. A tutorial on how to do it well (without 3 massive burns that it took me, after i got to orbit, 15 min, 8 min and 7 min plus the rendezvous maneuvers) would be great.
  8. By ARM do you mean claw? or are you using a mod? Also we just got the new parts, asking for more so soon is a bit...er...greedy, especially after the stick the Devs got over the release date.
  9. Yeah, like ghost out the icon or place it to one side. Good suggestion.
  10. You can re-order staging on the fly. I do it all the time, it's done in the same way as in the VAB/SPH. Changing action groups would be nice and has been suggested many times before though.
  11. I normally build mine fairly ad-hoc to suit my needs. I have several modules (lab, fuel, etc.) and send them up as needed. I also have rigs that are mainly just struts and docking ports, in case I've run out of space in a station. I've got: A fuel station above Kerbin, A lab station at Mun, A lab and fuel station at Minmus and lab, fuel, rover and lander sections heading to Duna.
  12. I'm a software dev too, unless you've seen the game code don't say "it would be easy to fix". Also you clearly haven't done your research in regards to the game engine or its physics. The other replies have covered this better than this but here goes: -It's your fault if you can't fly/your designs break, also the game engine doesn't work that way (look it up). -Again your bad design, and the planes would break apart, not necessarily explode, also some planes can and have flipped like they do in KSP (it doesn't normally end well). -Your bad design, again. -Engines don't work that way, like, at all. -Manufacturing does't work that way. Also don't mess with the config file then blame the Devs. Also also the config file is not a toy, leave it be while you're playing and do your research.
  13. Hi Squad, Recreated my forum account to just to say this. 0.23 is awesome. I love the tweakables, the new science system gives the game some nice new depth and I've now started building more ships with multiple science parts to gather more science in one mission, challenge leads to inspiration. And the optimization is awesome, it doubled my old part count limit and my frame rate only dropped slightly, badass stations here I come. Also there are certainly less physics 'hiccups' that sometimes resulted in unwanted Mun/Lander interactions. All in all, Awesome.
