  1. The Camelback Bridge There are so many things I've been wanting to get done in KSP and a Camelback Bridge is one of them. These type bridges are so fascinating, the engineering involved is so amazing it often baffles me. I have always admired the structural strength and designs of bridges and the feature that seems to impress me most is their impressive look. For those interested I found a book titled "How To Read Bridges" A crash course in engineering and architecture at the local book store, if you like bridges you will like this book, keep in mind it's a small paperback book but full of good information. This project I have to say has been the most trying of all, let me just say I've gone many rounds with the Kraken on this one. I started this Bridge with only a small section and it was planned to be just a show piece and had no intentions of it growing so big. Then the idea came to me about putting it over water. I built a Bridge Construction Set before and thought maybe I could bridge a gap somewhere on Kerbin. One thing lead to another and I found myself needing other craft to make this happen (in this case did not happen). I was hoping this would have been a more majestic looking bridge over water crossing to a small island but the Kraken would not allow that! I do plan to give it another try in the future and with a much stronger structure. I wanted to give everyone a view of this 423.3 meter bridge that took literally months to build and over 200 hours of building testing even with the Kraken destroying and even once ate my entire bridge leaving zero crumbs on the water, but I did manage to take a ride to it's unconnected end for your viewing. Lets just say Bridges are not recommended in a KSP yet...if ever....not sure what Squad will have for the future of this spectacular game. Bridges are lots of fun but not withstanding the physics of the game as of now. Special Note: It is not recommended to build Bridges in KSP, I do this because I enjoy building stuff in KSP if it works or don't work it's all fun for me. The Mobile Bridge is not going to work when setting it over the Pool, the Bridge was modified for the Video. Also Bridges that are constructed will require a low profile vehicle, the Convertible Jeep only works with the Mobile Bridge Unit. If you use it on a constructed Bridge do not use a Kerbal, cross the Bridge by Remote Control as seen in the Video. Connecting more than a totally of 7 sections including the Entrance and Exit is not recommended. After all testing the Bridge works best if constructed on land. 2. The Cantilever Bridge Project I've been working on a Bridge, it's a huge project and it can be followed on The Spacecraft Exchange forum (Gus Turbo WIP Thread). I've been building Bridges not because they are easy but because they are hard and lots of fun. This video is the result of many placements of the Piers, hours of traveling to location, many do overs and many plan changes. I am not sure what the final outcome will be of this project but the plan is to reach the small island at this location. I plan to share all the craft when the project is complete, keep in mind these type craft and projects require a lot of time and patience. I hope you enjoy the video!
  3. The Stone Bridge Raceway Set I would first like to mention The Stone Bridge structural design was very challenging. After completing the Bridge I couldn’t get myself to release just a Bridge without a purpose so I thought about making cars that could pass underneath it. This created another challenge, making the span at the center wide enough to allow a vehicle to pass. Because these items I used as blocks were made in sections for copy and paste it made this a very difficult task. It looks really nice at night and racing cars through the Pylons looks great at night also but this makes bad video, so night video was left out. Setting Pylons with the Pylon Setter Craft is a slow process but it’s worth it’s time for the fun. Also Car 7 is making some nice long jumps, as for the speed goes it's not what you would think for an Indy Car but it’s still a lot of fun. Three Cars were planned to be released for this project but I decided on releasing only one. Stone Bridge Stone Bridge Raceway (Bridge with an Underpass) Car 7 Pylon Setter Operations: Set all Pylons first then set the Bridge on the Runway. When setting the Pylons be sure the craft is completely stopped before releasing the Pylons, if they fall over this is not a problem, the Pylons can erect themselves using the ASDW keys. Car 7 is doing great with the throttle set at half, Engine at Dry with brakes used as needed to maintain speed. 4. Sector 7 Space Laboratories "Bridge Construction Set" In the early stages of this project the Suspension Bridge was not structurally sound for the reentry from saved games or when switching craft and as I strengthened the designed the part count climbed causing lag, this was a caused for design changes and new ideas. I then decided to try building the bridge on piers and this to was not working well because of reentry from a saved game on the water as mentioned before. The bridge is a far cry from what I would have liked but it's a functional Bridge that can be constructed. Often I used the Aqua Tram II for aligning the Bridge but in the end it was not necessary for the Bridge completion. Note: I am releasing the Pier section without knowing if it will actually work. I did notice during some testing that it can float free without the foundation mounted to the Ocean Floor and it survived reentry once during testing. Feel free to build these bridges on the water but as we know this game was not intended for water craft but it is still so much fun to build anything in KSP. I hope you enjoy the challenges as much as I did and have fun building bridges along with Rocketry. First Design This was looking really nice but not working in KSP More Photos Photos of Complications on the water Mobile Lift & Bridge Parts: 229 Mass: 38.656t Height: 16.1m Width: 21.4m Length: 48.2m Bridge Entrance Parts: 264 Mass: 27.113t Height: 10.3m Width: 13.3m Length: 31.8m Long Bridge Section Parts: 275 Mass: 30.574t Height: 10.3m Width: 17.5m Length: 52.6m Bridge Pier Section Parts: 231 Mass: 174.727t Height: 28.8m Width: 45.5m Length: 12.8m Aqua Tram II Parts: 122 Mass: 27.055t Height: 3.5m Width: 5.2m Length: 9.9m Operation: I first brought Rover 7 to the coastline and then constructed the bridge straight off the rear of the runway starting with a Bridge Entrance then adding the center sections and then the Bridge Exit (Bridge Entrance). When docking them together alignment is very critical, sometimes they connect easily sometimes not. Much like connecting in space connect them very gently. Next shutdown the two engines on the Bridge Entrance manually so that all remaining engines will be running in one direction. The Bridge Entrance is a little shaky I makes turns near 10 m/s the center sections are much easier to handle. The Rover I am using must climb on the Bridge ramps slowly. The Mobile Lift is slow to start and can't make tight turns but it is placing Bridges nicely. When the Mobile Lift releases the Bridge it will collapse, at this point just return to the tracking center and remove the debris unless you have a 0 debris setting then this is unnecessary. I may have left out some needed information, please feel free to ask questions if needed.
