  1. Welcome to the KerbAthlon Challenge! In this challenge you will take part in a multiple-stage competition. You have to swim, drive, fly and make an interplanetary trip. There are five checkpoints throughout the Kerbol system you have to visit with the same kerbal(s). The catch is, you have to first find and prepare these checkpoints for the KerbAthlon! This challenge is not only about speed! Fuel efficiency and reusability are also important! You need to download the following savegame that contains all the checkpoints you need to visit: Download Savegame (for KSP 1.2.1) The challenge is separated into four stages you have to conduct in the listed order: You start at the flag at the beach of the Island Airfield 1. Travel between Checkpoint 1 and Checkpoint 2 by boat 2. Fly between Checkpoint 2 and 3 by Rocket or Spaceplane. 3. Fly from Checkpoint 3 to Checkpoint 4 with a plane 4. Drive from Checkpoint 4 to Checkpoint 5 with a rover. The finish line is a flag at the fifth checkpoint. You have to reach the fifth checkpoint until the end of year 4. Before you start the challenge, you may want to prepare for it. You need a boat at Checkpoint 1, a rocket or spaceplane at the KSC (Checkpoint 2), a plane at Checkpoint 3 and a rover at Checkpoint 4. It is allowed to add refuelling stations at each checkpoint. You don't need to make these preparations though if you want to reuse some vehicles. General Rules: One stage is accepted as completed when your vehicle is less than 50m away from the checkpoint. (5km for stage 2) The rover and the boat must be able to fit through the checkpoints. A test checkpoint is placed besides the runway. All crafts you want to use must be deployed before you start the challenge Your kerbals must be inside a part (no external seats or transportation in cargo/service bays) All the Kerbals you want to participate in this challenge have to be present in all stages Limitations: Refuelling is only allowed at the checkpoints. You are not allowed to use more than one craft for each stage. Transfer vehicles are forbidden (e.g. if you landed far away from Checkpoint 3, you have to walk). The Kerbals conducting the challenge are not allowed to return back into the KSC until the challenge is completed You may NOT use HyperEdit or similar tools for the preparation. This includes stock cheats. The maximum number of kerbals is 16 These are the four stages you have to complete: 1: Swimming: Additional Rules: The craft has to touch the water all the time Points: 100 Points for completing this stage +1 Points for every 1 second you are faster than 6 Minutes -1 Points for every 1 second you are slower than 6 Minutes -1 Point per 8 Units of used Liquid Fuel 2: Space-Travel Points: 100 Points for completing this stage +1 Points for every day you are faster than 300 Days -1 Points for every day you are slower than 300 Days -1 Point for every additional 100m you land away from checkpoint 3 (when the distance is above 250m) -1 Point per 200 Units of used Liquid Fuel and Solid Fuel 3: Flying Additional Rules: You are not allowed to fly higher than 6000m Points: 100 Points for completing this stage +10 Points for every minute you are faster than 15 Minutes -10 Points for every minute you are slower than 15 Minutes -1 Point per used 7 units of used Liquid Fuel 4: Driving Additional Rules: The Rover is not allowed to generate EC from solar panels, RTG, or fuel-cells. If you use the Buffalo you have to drive at night. The Rover must touch the ground almost all the time, small jumps are allowed Points: 100 Points for completing this stage +10 Points for every 30 seconds you are faster than 15 Minutes -10 Points for every 30 seconds you are slower than 15 Minutes -1 Point per 15 used units of used EC -1 Point per 5 used units of used Liquid Fuel Bonus Points: + 20 Points if you travel mostly under water between Checkpoint 1 and Checkpoint 2 + 50 Points for each stage conducted with the same vehicle. (No copies) + 30 Points if you use and SSTO for stage 2 + 60 Points per additional Kerbal per stage you take along the whole trip + 30 Points per Kerbal you bring back from Checkpoint 5 to the flag on the Island Airfield before Year 7 Day 0 Penalty Points: - 100 Points if a kerbal dies - 50 Points per damaged or destroyed Checkpoint - 50 Points if you get out of fuel before reaching the goal of one stage (more than 100m away) - 10 Points for each accidentally destroyed part of a vehicle - 10 Points for refuelling a vehicle - 20 Points for using MechJeb (or similar) to land in stage 2 Because calculating the score can be a bit difficult here, you can download this Excel-Sheet that does the calculation for you: Download Excel-Sheet Categories: Stock: You conduct the challenge with a fully stock game. No mods at all should be used for this discipline. Modded: In this discipline you can use mods that add parts that do NOT outplay stock parts. E.g. Fusion Engines for the Space Travel or Engines only using electricity for flight or swimming. MechJeb and similar mods are allowed. Mods that do change the physics not! The winner of each category will be awarded with an individually designed banner...and reputation of course! To record your progress, show us a screenshot from start and end of each stage. Videos are also appreciated! Good Luck
