Can't dock to space station.

Recommended Posts

I'm having the same issue with one of my docking ports...

I was building a large interplanetary ship in orbit and just about to dock two big parts when my game crashed to desktop (I've got a couple of mods... around 30... so this happens to me a lot). When I reloaded and jumped back to my ship, the two parts had collided and bounced off each other. I got them back under control and lined up to dock again, but the docking port on one of my ships won't connect with the other.

When I right click on one of the docking ports, there's an entry in the pop up window that says "Status: locked". I tried doing an EVA with an engineer Kerbal to see if it was repairable, but no luck. I'll give your suggestions a try, but I have the feeling I might be out of luck unless I can "unlock" the damaged docking port.

I'm in career mode and it would really stink if I have to go back an earn enough $$$ to rebuild this part.

Has anyone else seen this, and have any advice on how to fix it?

Thanks, the directions on that link worked (my docking port was a shielded one and the game seemed to think the shield was still closed). However, the directions were pretty 'next level' programming wise, and I introduced another bug while doing it, but I learned a little bit about how the game works 'under the hood', and now have a much greater appreciation of what those guys at Squad are dealing with.

The other option is the Jan 17th version of the Kerbal Joint Reinforcement (KJR) DLL (not the Jan 15th release). I've not had any docking issues since installing KJR from Jan 17th. (Dig through the last 2-3 pages of the KJR thread, there are multiple links to the Jan 17th DLL.)

I will also direct people to this thread, which provides more comprehensive instructions (if required) to fix docking ports: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/78863-FIX-Dock-Undocking-Bug-in-0-23-5

I'm also happy to accept pure stock save files which exhibit this problem. Save files would help me in creating a supplemental fix to include in my stock bug fixes.

KJR did introduce a problem with docking ports about a month ago, and has since been fixed. What I don't know is if KJR prevents this problem completely, or if it only fixed it's own problem with inadvertently disabling docking ports.

Cheers,

~Claw

Well, you have to set your target docking port as "target" and control from your own docking port, also, try clicking T many times, that will activate and deactivate the SAS, which somehow helps on docking when you're that close.

You don't have to target the docking port as a "target" or control from a docking port. The ports when aligned correctly will snap up automatically, doing the other steps just makes it usually easier. SAS may actually over compensate sometimes and pull you away from the port at times. Best allow the natural magnetic ports to draw each other in.

Also, am I the only one to think that...the amount of RCS modules on that craft is wayy too much?
