SPH/VAB: remove that zoom-in when viewing from above, and return horizontal snap?

Recommended Posts

In SPH or VAB when you view the vehicle from above, the camera annoyingly zooms in. It's a new feature that came out in 0.90.

What they make that for? it makes craft building harder as it's very disorienting.

Another change that came with 0.90 is that some parts (like wings & cube struts) can't snap to the middle, just slide sideways.

Can horizontal-snap be returned? One solution is to use the offset tool while angle snap is on to align the parts, but this requires doing 4 actions where i used to do just 1:

Before 0.90:

- attach part behind a part

After:

- attach part

- select offset tool

- select part

- select direction

(By the way, the tools are GREAT)

Opinions? :P

If you want to make it so that it doesn't zoom into the craft, you have to move (your camera) down/lower into the SPH. Either you can zoom down with the keys, or the keys are hard to find, use this trick:

As you can see, when going into the VAB, chose a part, delete it, then chose your root part (, if you want, move it down so that it is level with camera). The zooming will go away. This isn't a bug, but a side-affect of what happens when the default camera is a little higher than usual. The camera hits the VAB ceiling and thus can't move up more. Your sphere through which you can navigate your camera becomes a very thick pancake:

(imagine a sphere with two planer intersections, but the planer intersections cut off the edges. Basically an exaggerated version of this:

You think its zooming, but its just you moving through a thick pancake squad has decided to add to the game as a camera view.

Yes, I know what's happening, I would like it to not do that. It's only in I think 0.90 that this was added.

Did you read the entire post? You can solve the problem by deleting the first root part, then picking a new one. I don't know why, but this places the camera lower, low enough for it to not zoom.

That is a nice trick I will use a lot, thanks.

But I'd still prefer if squad wouldn't force that pancake on me.
