Help?

I have a rocket. It uses the first parachute available in career mode. When I launch it the parachute automatically deploys. I did not tell it to deploy. I am on a mac (Version 10.10) and using KSP version 0.90.

It does seem most probable that your parachutes are located in the launch stage.

Its a common issue when building rockets that have no decouplers, e.g. an SRB, pod and parachute as ther game tends to stick everything in a single stage in their absence.

Preferably in the VAB, but you can do it at any time.

Hover your cursor over the staging box on the side of the screen. You should get a "+" and "-" icon. Click on + to create another stage. Then click and drag the parachute icon into the new stage box. Finally, drag your new parachute stage box -above- your engine stage by clicking and dragging on the top border of the box where the number is displayed.

These clicking instructions assume Mac mouse functions are the same as PC.

Edit: Having now watched part of the vid, staging is arrange in the same fashion.

You won't really need a decoupler for your first rocket. There might be a little explosion when the engine hits the ground but the rest of it will (probably) survive.

As far as research goes, remember that you need to select the node you want then click on the "Research" button on the far right side of the screen.

When you hit space for launch everything in "Stage 0" will activate. Edit your staging by clicking the little plus sign to add a new stage, then drag your engine down to that new stage.
