Bug: crashing into Pol

Recommended Posts

I have a mission to land on Pol, but finding it impossible (although I've landed there in other saves). I get to a few hundred meters above the surface and the ship just explodes. It says it collided with Pol, but it was well above the surface. It doesn't matter how fast going, and it doesn't matter where I land, so I don't think it's some kind of phantom terrain issue.

It's a known bug and has been reported as bug #3423 here: http://bugs.kerbalspaceprogram.com/issues/3423

Pol just seems buggy, right now. The majority of my really weird glitch-out moments seem to happen there. Once, I crashed into the surface a mile above the surface, planted a flag that teleported a mile into the air when I quickloaded, and ended up an eighth of the way around Pol's orbit when I exited its SOI, all in the same mission.

There's something specific to Pol's surface that's very glitchy. When I switch to a craft in low orbit around Pol there's a moment or two after loading where the surface seems to abruptly change position by several km. Trying to load a craft which is within a few km of the surface invariably seems to cause it to instantly explode on loading as if it's collided with this "phantom" surface.
