Can I turn off explosions?

Recommended Posts

KSP usually starts to fail and eventually crash after a number of crashes/explosions, like when I'm prototyping. So, anyway to disable the flaming explosions, maybe just leaving the craft falling apart?

You can go into the parts config files and disable explosions there.

If I understand the program correctly, tho', it's not the explosions that are sucking up your memory. It's the modeling of all the independent parts. Thus you would still have this problem even without the explosions.

CALL THE KERBAL SPACE MARINES, WE HAVE A HERETIC!

Kerbal inquisitors maybe? But they'd be heretics themselves if they devoted so much effort towards *not* producing their own explosions. o.0

Seriously though, the explosions' only significant effect on FPS/stability should be the particle effects produced when they happen. I'm guessing if you turn down some graphics settings that problem should be reduced.

Thanks for the suggestions. Its not my PC though. Its a top-spec gaming PC. Everything else about KSP runs fine, even at max detail.

Its just that I have noticed that if a craft that I'm prototyping has a tendency to explode then after four or five returns to the VAB/SPH the game might crash. If I'm doing the same with a craft that I'm just tweaking and it stays in one piece then I don't get the problem.

Sure you can turn off explosions. Just use the debug menu and check "no crash damage."

Thank you. That's pretty useful. Not only do I get rid of the flames and stuff but it also makes the failure cause more obvious.

Well, it also causes parts to become completely unbreakable. In other words, don't do impact testing with this on.

Okay, actually, after looking at your rep and post count, I'm not really sure if you're being serious or not.

And now after looking at this thread, I'm pretty sure you were being serious. I've never been that great at gauging other people's intentions, and text-based communication just makes it harder :)
