I've been looking into some of these online nation simulation games trying to find the best one, and they all seem pretty interesting.

There was a KSP thread on NationStates a while back (actually, I just did a search and found three threads), so I'm clearly not alone. That got me wondering which other nation-related games the KSP community plays. Poll time!

Stop reading now if you don't care about my pointless opinion-speech-rant-thing

Personally, NationStates is the oldest one but it seems like the most interesting one. It gets boring fast though. If you don't like RP, and I don't particularly like it, then the only thing to do is vote on resolutions and enjoy the burning satire in the daily issues.

CyberNations is a newer game that I briefly checked out to see if it was any better (Reddit seems to prefer it), and it did seem interesting at first, but then I actually looked into some of the community game guides... and got disappointed fast. The only way to grow your nation is to grind, do math, and wait. Everything involves number-tweaking, and everything has a percentage attached to it. Successful players are the ones that switch out their buildings on a regular basis, and honestly, the whole thing feels way too artificial.

So, there's my opinion. What about you guys?

It really is just like that for this game I'm playing: http://politicsandwar.com/

Honestly, I haven't really thought about it too hard; I just like smashing other peoples' infrastructure every now and then. But it's definitely all staged, all based on definite percentages and everything.

You might like http://ars-regendi.com/ - I've heard good things about it being a good politics simulation game, although I've yet to try it myself, and I'll rectify that soon. And there's also eRepublik, where you play as a citizen of a country, have a virtual job and participate in your country's/international politics. http://www.erepublik.com/en

Definitely feel you on NationStates. Mostly I have an account there to write a factbook about my country - for world building purposes - I might go into international RP but I'm not sure. They rolled out NationStates 2 for a time, which was supposed to be all the issues and roleplay plus actual economics and war mechanics, but they rolled it back for some reason and I've never heard a peep about it again. A shame.

I used to do Cyber Nations, until I got wiped out of the map multiple times by people with about 100x better than me.

Now, I regurlarly do 4X games, my faves are Star Ruler 2 and Civ beyond earth. Technically not a nation simulation, but once I had a SR2 game that lasted for 6 hours :)

I'm a Tropico fan, it's the only series I know of that has the "Swiss Bank Account" post-rule retirement fund that made me laugh my head off the first time I saw it. Plus there are all kinds of subtle yet brilliant jokes about and jabs against government if you're informed enough to spot them.

I wouldn't say it's really a nation-building game in the sense of some of these others, but Civ 5 is a great strategy game, and since I play it singleplayer, "I didn't like his attitude" is a perfectly legitimate reason for going to war.

Yes, i'm looking at you, Darius the first. "I am Darius the first, king of Persia, great and magnificent! But of course you already knew that." You think you're all that with your country, but then one of your neighbors says "maybe he's not so great" and then suddenly you're attacked by someone with riflemen and you only have spearmen then you run but then my rocket artillery bomb you and suddenly i win

...Also, in that entire game, I think I was the only one who was friendly to Rome. Seriously, why did everyone hate rome? I arrive at the other continent and I see rome's cities surrounded and being sacked. Meanwhile, the Iroquois, my only other ally, asked me to denounce rome. Naturally I said no, but then they denounced me.. Didn't matter anyways, because I was already invading Portugal since they were the only other real competitor to my greatness, and I won.

As you can see, it's strangely satisfying to talk about your latest Civilization 5 game. It'll do that to ya.

I just looked at the home page listing top countries, and guess what I see in first place?

Serbia. Guess by my name which country I'm from?

Yep.

Laughed so hard when I saw this. It's awesome :D

Haha, that's so awesome. Yeah, strange cool things happen in eRepublik. I was there for a few weeks to about a month-ish when it first came out, back when I used to lurk /v/, and back then they were obsessed with Pakistan. /v/AKISTAN OF GLORIOUS WORLD LEADING FOREVER. I'm happy that your homeland has made it to the top!

I created the People's Republic of Rimian Xinbeishan, with an extra weak economy! Rimia for some reason, had been reserved.:(

EDIT: I love it when on the list of the latest posts you make :( turns into the colon and bracket form (sorry, I can't do it it always turns into :( ))
