How well can you fly without SAS?

I can fly within the atmosphere pretty well without SAS. In space... not so much. I can't hold a steady attitude without resorting to the warp cheat. Perhaps that will be improved in 1.2.

Lets hope it isn't "improved" too much though.

After all, if it is just as easy to fly with SAS as without it, then the point of reaction wheels, and pilots becomes more moot, no?

I actually hope they keep the balance between SAS no-SAS about like it is today = there is a real benefit to using probe cores, reaction wheels, and pilots.

The majority of things i use have SAS on, but thats because most of my ships (and aircraft) feature assymetric thrust, and very wonky aerodynamics (always makes me wonder who thinks up all of these "sci-fi" ships in movies and other games, 90% of them are completely unfeaseable aerodynamically and way too many have assymetric thrust making space flight a pain).  That said, almost any aircraft that i make that is at least somewhat realistic looking will actually fly better with SAS turned off.  In space, when you enable precision control and disable all but the weakest reaction wheel (and kill all engine gimbals) its actually quite managable (assuming it isnt a offcenter thrust sci-fi monstrosity that is).  While ive always used SAS because it made the game easier and got rid of the constant corrections you had to do, 90% of realistic or plausible craft like orbiters, rockets, satellites, aircraft, SSTOs, ect (only exceptions being things like space shuttles that have majorly assymetric thrust problems) are actually fully flyable with it disabled, you just need to be patient and take it easy on the controls.  With precision controls enabled (caps default) just a tap in the direction you want will set the ship in motion, and another tap will stop the motion once you are pointing as desired.
