Russian Soyuz Replica (With unmanned "Progress" version)

Recommended Posts

The Kerbyuz family (Soyuz Stock replicas)

After a lot of fiddling, exploitation and a *bit* of part clipping, I present to you: the Kerbyuz - A stock replica of the famed Soyuz!

(Tested as of 0.90)

Here it is, in Kronal Vessel Viewer:

f7TQGdvl.jpg

Kerbyuz TM (Manned)

The shuttle that is used to send cosmonauts and astronauts to the ISS, and is also used as an "escape pod."

Carries 3 Kerbals, but 2 more can fit by filling up the two-seater orbital module.

Kerbyuz (Progress - Unmanned)

The unmanned supply ship, used to resupply the ISS when Space Shuttles became obsolete and before the ATV came along.

Looks the same, except for the fairing and modules.

Controls, Action Groups and Instructions

Launch Profile: Ignite First Stage. Soyuz should lift off the pad.

Pitch 45 degrees at 10,000 to 15,000m (Gravity Turn).

Once boosters are out, separate with Action Group "2".

Start core stage after boosters spin away.

Separate core stage. Fairings will separate with it.

Fire Third stage.

With correct flight profile, you should be in orbit by now,

Separate the Third Stage.

Start up TMA engines. Deploy Solar Panels (Action Group 1) and RCS.

Set up a rendezvous, go for an EVA.. Your mission!

(Be careful, those radial intakes are going to hurl your poor Kerbal into deep space!)

Once you seek to start deorbiting, fire retrograde with the TMA engines.

Once sub-orbital, undock service and orbital modules with action group 2. Be sure no one's in the orbital module!

And you're off to the atmosphere!

Once at desirable altitude, deploy chutes with Action Group 3.

At a handful of meters from the ground, engage retrorockets. Your descent should be adequate with this profile.

Action Groups: Abort - Tears fairings off and separates crew module away from the ship. (Only on TMA!)

Custom01 - Deploys Solar Panels (And antennae on Progress.)

Custom02 - Separates the modules. Be sure to switch to the reentry module on the TMA version!

Custom03 - Deploys parachutes. This is vital, as staging prevents them from deploying on their own, somehow.

Update releases

Version 1.0 - Current, first version

Version 1.5 - Added more launch clamps, and core stage now fires at launch instead of after booster separation.

Version 2.0 - a BIG update! Decouplers replaced with docking ports (actiongroup 2), and radial intakes added to capsules, making it look much better. Be careful about going on EVA, though - it could shoot your Kerbal out of the hatch in a split-second!

Oh, sorry! I didn't know about that. I guess I should have done more research on the staging sequence. There isn't much about the core stage that is available on articles. :P

I'll be sure to revise that. Thanks for the feedback! :D

And.. I just realized that the Fregat upper stage is the TMA engine itself.

I have to work on this a lot.

Updated the craft! Core stage now launches in synchronization with the boosters, and launch clamps added. Imgur album was updated too! Now to work on Progress..

  • 2 weeks later...

I updated the Soyuz again - a big overhaul! Fairings now separate in two instead of six, decouplers replaced with docking ports (Action Group 2 to decouple,) and a big aesthetics overhaul, making the Soyuz look much better - the TMA and Progress modules themselves in particular.

Have fun! :)
