HELP! My new part is invisible and I don't know why

Recommended Posts

OK, so I spent a few weeks learning how to CAD model and I've developed a new part using blender

Then I loaded the model into Unity

I have the cfg written

these are the files copied into KSP folder

and this is the NOTHING I see when I select my part.

I don't understand, I followed the cryptic tutorials closely so it SHOULD work, right?

why does this have to be so hard?

in this pic, https://i.imgur.com/dEIpLpT.png, drag/drop "TANK_ASPER" onto PartTools. Now when you select PartTools in Heirarchy, the Tank mesh should become textured wireframe and turn blue. in the pic, you can see the Tank mesh doesn't have blue wireframe highlight, that means it's not going to get exported.

you did everything correctly, except attach the tank object to the export process. PartTools script exports all of it's children into a *.MU file. since you didn't assign it any children before export, it returned an empty *.MU file and so you see no object in game. All things considered, this is far less frustrating than a part not loading at all. :D

Like this?

and it worked!

thanks a bunch mate, but now I see that it's too big. the center node can dwarfs a kerbodyne tank, it's supposed to fit a rockomax. trying to scale it doesn't seem to work.

also, got any tips on node placement? this is the final step I believe and it's a bit perplexing.

imported scale? say what now? I just drag and drop like the tutorials said, and they mentioned nothing about scale.

In Blender, I just put a radius of 2.5 for the center and expected it to fit 2.5m tanks

try removing the line "Scale = 0.1" from config. create a cylinder primitive in Unity with scale of 2.5,2.5,2.5 and check the size of your mesh.

also remember KSP sizes are diameter; radius 2.5 = 5m tank in KSP.

In the Unity inspector, click on the model file you exported from blender - there will ( should!) be an Import Settings panel with Model tab. In there is "Scale Factor" which always resets itself to 0.01 for every new model I try and import...
