Can't attach stuff inside cargo bays?

Recommended Posts

I've picked up KSP again after a hiatus. I've designed a probe, stored it as a subassembly, and I'm trying to build a cargo bay on the upper stage of my launcher. However, I can't seem to attach the probe inside the cargo bay. I only get attachment nodes for the ends.

If I put the end piece on the end of the cargo bay, there's no node to attach my probe:

If I attach the probe, upside down, to the node at the open end of the cargo bay I then can't attach the nose cone:

What am I doing wrong? Could it be a mod screwing this up?

Once an attachment node is occupied most of the time you can not attach anything else to it. You're not doing anything wrong, that's just one of the habits of the game.

To solve this go to the debug screen [Alt] + [F12] and click "enable part clipping in editor".

I don't recognize the parts you're using to create the cargo bay, but I suggest placing a small cubic strut either on the battery or the bottom of the nosecone (they don't require attachment nodes), then use the offset tool to center it. Attach a decoupler or docking port to that, and then your probe to that part. Use struts to stabilize it. Enabling part clipping can cause problems.

Excellent! Thank you, sir, that's done it!

Looks like it's a cargo bay from B9 Aerospace.
