Pillar of Eternity

Not sure if people on this forum that are geared toward sci-fi and science-based gaming are interested in fantasy RPG...

But Pillar of Eternity is now out, and I have been putting KSP aside for it.

The gameplay is classic RPG D20 system that people who has been through Baldur's gate, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights will recognize and love. But it is not as interesting as the storytelling mechanics, the world building effort, and the intriguing plots.

It is a very much living story that you play in the game, and one that change based on your choice. And oh, the choices...if there is one thing I have to say about Pillar of Eternity, it will be "There is no easy choice". There is no clear cut good and evil choice in this game in this bleak world where the only morality is grey. You may have to make some questionable choice. You may have to judge other characters doing questionable choices. Nothing is certain, and unless you choose to ruin your experience with spoiler (the only real bad choice ), you will always be left wondered "Did I do the right things?"

It really draws me into its world and makes me feel like I am writing my own story in that world (the character's biography actually updates with your major choices and record it).

Quite a great experience for those who are less interested in fancy graphic (not that the game graphic is any bad) and love a deep, deep story in a wonderful world to explore.

It's on my Steam wish list. Looks to be the closest thing ever to a reincarnation of the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale games.

It's a game I'll buy sooner or later. I'm just waiting for the CRPG mood to take me before I bother spending the money.

It is certainly worth a buy. You don't need to buy it now though. Not like the game is going anywhere. It got completed.

This game caught my attention, too. I saw a nice review by Super Bunnyhop on YT and i like what i saw.

I loved Baldurs Gate 2 for its story telling and combat. Perhaps i see BG2 through the glasses of nostalgia but i remember the fights as the most epic.

I gotta say, I really love the writing of this game. The interaction of the characters really make them lively:

*A fighter character asked the ranger about her animal companion*

Fighter: Hey, [ranger's name], does your fox bite?

Ranger: Yes.

Fighter: Can I pet him anyway?

Ranger: It is your hand.

Fighter: I am going to pet him.

*later on*

Ranger: How's the hand?

Fighter: Turning purple. Might have to cut it off.

Ranger: I warned you not to pet him.

Fighter: If I am not supposed to pet him why is he so soft?
