Drag rudders??

Recommended Posts

I've been experimenting with blended wing aircraft. And I want to substitute regular rudder design with drag rudders like on te B2 Stealth bomber.

Can you make drag rudders? If yes, how?

I did try to build it myself by attaching 2 elevons symmetrically to a steal beam and save it as a sub assembly. I then attached them at the end of the wings 2 way symmetrically and set the elevons as " Yaw' positive. But it actually doesn't seem to work that way at all.

If you cannot design drag rudders in KSP is there a mod that does the trick?

Try setting them as spoilers. Then strip the symmetry and set each to a different action group. Easier might be to use an airbrake part from a mod pack like B9.

Take a look at this

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/112327-WIP-FAR-Modified

Quote: "Brake Rudder % option for control surfaces, useful for fly-wing aircrafts (best used with Yaw PD Controller and Roll-Yaw-Converter)."

You cannot do it in regular FAR AFAIK.

That really seems like the thing i've been looking for.

I'm going to test it out during the weekends and see if it works.

@Jovus

Great idea to get the job done. Honestly, I think tapping 2 seperate actions keys for rudder control seems quite a hassle. Especially if you need either fine tuned and/or hard control inputs in the upper atmosphere, i.e. to get into space. Nevertheless I will try this method and see how well it should perform.
