Building bearings --> how to prevent Clipping after re-docking?

I have tried to make something with bearings. Used a 1,25m tank as the center, tiny rover wheels all around, as soon as the decoupler is gone, the bearing is moving.

So far so great...

BUT: as soon as I try to reconnect the moving part, the entire bearing assembly clips through the tank. WHY? Why is this happening? And how can I prevent it?

This is so infuriating...
