XM-1 Chrysler - M-1 Abrams Prototype, with a surprise [And a stock bearing]

Recommended Posts

Due to the part sizes in KSP, I was forced to install a 140 mm L55 main gun in this prototype tank. It currently carries one shot, but I'll upgrade it to four ASAP, with a possible future autoloader.

I'm currently working on making the turret a bit more compact (easy) and upgrading the torsion bar suspension system (hard).

One of the main goals for the future XM-1.9 prototype upgrade will be a smoother bearing system and fixing the cannon. (Version XM-1.9.1, which is this version, has an issue with the rifled main gun, causing aerodynamic instability for the cannon round).

Way too many parts.....

At least for a tank.

You might also want to look into a stronger and more reliable bearing. I made one myself (its on many of my tanks) that you can check out on my company page (click signature image thingy). With a better bearing, you should not only have a much more stable turret, but you should have less part count and less likely to fail/fall off/be shot off.

Yeah, this prototype was just meant to look like the M-1 Abrams. I'm ripping out any unneeded parts when I have time, as I went crazy with the struts.

I did mention all of those improvements in the OP. My bradley esque tank with a bearing is only about 300 parts.

I don't particularly care that this tank is around 500 parts. As long as it looks good, a few fried computers are worth it.
