if we ever get around to putting either people, or enough rovers to make a significant impact on completing a survey of Mars, and do happen to stumble across solid evidence of microbial life at some point in its past, if not currently, i think it will become harder to prove life here didn\'t get seeded by martian debris than to prove it was.

I\'ll be surprised if there isn\'t at least SOME microbial life on Mars. However, that\'s because we\'ve plonked enough Earth hardware there to sink a ship, and I\'ll bet at least a few bugs managed to survive the trip. :)
