Maybe squad should add things like gold or diamonds that have no immediate material use but when collected from other worlds will bring a ton of money back.

Perhaps dres could be given a large quantity of this stuff so we can finally have a reason for going there.

Maybe the economics of the Kerbal universe is different, but at least in our world things like gold and diamonds aren't NEARLY valuable enough per pound to be worthwhile mining in space...

Well, I think the problem is, there is so much of that stuff in space, that bringing a single in asteroid with valuable minerals down to Earth would cause that mineral price to plummet.

But that would require a whole separate container for kimonds...

Maybe just give unprocessed "Ore" a high selling price? Either process it to make fuel, or leave it unprocessed to make cash

You cant sell asteroids worth of gold/platinum etc. because you would completely ruin the economy down here making this stuff completely worthless.

I dont think you'll see Squad adding this, but im sure it can be easily done by modding the stock resource system (I did something very similar with Regolith, and they two system are similar im sure)

On the other hand, I guess there are plenty of industries were cheap gold and platinum would be a huge boom. But I think the best usage, if farfetched, of mining asteroids is to (somehow) be able to mount a spaceship factory already in space. That way, you don't need to beat Earth's gravity to do business in space.

Karbonite does this with Rare Metals, near as I can tell it's just a small mining byproduct. The value makes recovering a container of it more than worthwhi
