Is it the end for laythe roundtrip SSTOs?

Recommended Posts

I don't see why SSTO's would be made harder, if the lift and drag models have been improved, it should be easier, even if the turbojets have had their characteristics modified. Also, I'm pretty sure the atmosphere has not been made less dense, it's just that models the drag on things better, so you should hopefully be able to get roughly the same amount of air in the intakes. Also, I don't think ISP in vacuum has been changed much, so if you could do something with a NERVA before, you should be able to now. This is only based on what I've seen from videos though, so I could be so very wrong.

One of the streamers yesterday, either Das or Scott M, did a vertical climb on jets alone, went too fast, blew up several (possibly important) parts while still relatively low in the atmosphere, and still had an apoapsis in excess of 200k.

They need to nerf the crap out of ion engines. Having them work at all in an atmosphere is a joke. In return, they need to give us electric propellers.

And don't forget, before 1.0, KSP was early access. IMO, I think the devs have been too worried about breaking people's old crafts. You were given early access, having your crafts made obsolete should just be the price you have to pay, if the progress of the game demands it.

There id truth in your statement.

But I think the reward for a game model change is much greater than flying the same crafts again and again.

Assuming thsi is true, my worries are settled ill MOST LIKELY still be able to pull off SSTOs, might require a little more fuel amount tweaks, but id guess that its possible to do laythe roundtrips with jey+nuke or jet+ion.

I wouldnt mind ions being realistified assuming they dont get thrust nerfs, as burns over 20mins are beyond no-fun. Ocf if they allowed on rails burns somehow then even 0.01 thrust would be useable, but until this is a feature im akll for ANY thrust buffs for ions. Also, ions are laggy on craft above 20t, where i need over 100 of the things to get a TWR of at least 0.25, the bare minimum ill even touch on any vessel.

Anyways, just got 1.0, gonna try to build a new Tri-Fighter V, since the IV is clearly too abusing of 0.90 crap aero, not to mention the 30 ion fuel tanks which so need to be cut down in part counts.
