Yep, same here. Stock .90 I could get around 45fps just sitting on the pad with a command module. Stock 1.0 is around 25fps, same settings, same situation. Even worse in the VAB. Drops to around 15fps with just a command pod.

Ok so looks like it might be a bug, I'm in orbit 90 km around kerbin. looking into space = 60 fps, Looking to the planet = 30 fps. Even in 0.9 I don't get this massive FPS drop.

Also I was thinking it is the launch base, but its not. Any where I am in orbit, even if I'm not looking at the launch base, 30-35 fps looking into planet.

I cannot comment on this atm as im still updating. But this sounds like the ocean-render issue 0.9 had. Thought SQUAD had this fixed...

I just did a quick FPS test with the largest stock rocket. I believe it has 78 parts.

VAB 60 FPS

Launchpad 60 FPS

Flight 60 FPS

Flight + Aero effects 45 FPS

Space 60 FPS

Return through atmosphere 45 FPS

Radeon R7950 3gb / I5 / 6 gb RAM / 1920x1080 / graphics settings all maxed out

The biggest suspect for newfound FPS loss would be the aerodynamic calculations, I think. Especially if it's being done on a single thread as most other things in KSP.

What I can see is the usual stark difference in FPS between looking into space (timer solidly in the green) and looking at the ground (yellow shows up even with a 10 part ship). This has existed for a very long time, I can't really tell if it got even worse because the memory leaks on OSX are making my game crash evey 20 minutes. I am seriously disappointed with this update.

Its worst, 60 fps to 30 fps just by looking at the planet is ridiculous. I can tell you I don't have this problem in 0.9. Also I forgot to mention my ship is a small stock space plane. Which makes it even worst!

This is one of the lag problem. The other lag problem is the aero effects especially when reaching mach speed at high altitudes.

Overall, looks like squad missed its mark here with optimisation. The loading times are great by the way, but on the other hand the terrible optimisation might be to do with the change of texture formats.

I remember discussing a similar situation (framerate going down the drain when Kerbin was in the viewport) when I still was on the experimentals team, and that was, like... three years ago.

Can confirm this,

quite smooth with over 500 Parts on

i7-4930K and R280X / 32GB

in 0.90, unplayable performance with stock Aeris on Runway in 1.0 with same settings on new install and save.

edit: spellcheck

I am having this problem too. I am using linux and I updated from 0.25. I use an i7-4702MQ with Intel HD4600. I know that it is not exactly a high-end pc for gaming but in 0.25, with tons of mods (RemoteTech, Interstellar, Mechjeb, DeadlyReentry, FAR,Environmental Visual Enhancements , life support, KAS, InfernalRobotics, HotRockets, ScanSat, realchute, alarm clock, etc, etc) I had an slightly better performance than the stock 1.0. In 0.25 stock it worked just fine.

I am also noticing that, flying a plane, if I look to the sky, the game works super smooth, if I look to the ground I have a massive FPS drop. I am using medium settings without AA.

My problem now seems completely gone after restarting and turning the render settings from highest setting to beautiful and anti-aliasing from 4x to 2x... strange. (Anti Aliasing 8x creates a blurred (like gaussian blur) slideshow, rendering text completely unreadable.)
