How do I stuff things into the cargo bay / service module?

I'm a bit out of practice (damn you Elite: Dangerous!), and got back into KSP with yesterday's release. I'm playing Career mode from a new game start.

For the life of me, I can't figure out how to stuff Goo Canisters in the Service Bay. Do I need to advance to get cubic octagonal struts or something? The best I can do clips them facing inward radially mounted with the mounting section sticking through the module doors and into the next part below.

Am I doing something wrong?

Use the controls (Q,E,W,A,S,D) to rotate it around until it fits correctly. I put my on the bottom surface and then rotate them inside.

Try changing Angle snap © or rotating like what was said above.

this, i generally place 2 on the bottom like this. i use the top for an antenna and batteries
