What parts are best at cooling?

Recommended Posts

Apparently wing parts can cool engines and fuel tanks very well, though I'm not sure how it would work on a spaceplane without seriously affecting lift.

Try using other structural parts like beams and such.

I archieved orbit with a ssto plane a couple of times by throttling down until up at 7000 m (where the atmosphere indicator goes in the middle section) and then smashing the gas.

I think the key is to find the sweet spot for your plane, where the drag won't burn you but the wings keep you in the air.

I have played with FAR and Deadly reentry almost exclusively before 1.0 (owned it since early 2013), so I should be use to the basic concepts of heating and the new stock model. I love making SSTOs and have only played about 5 hours on 1.0 due to school constraints. I have tried the old way of going to 10-20km up and getting speed on the orbital m/s to 1600 but then I just kill my pod with the heat. I tried what I read on another thread about pitching to 45* and gunning into space, that seems to fix the heating problem but I run out of fuel before i can get into orbit.

I will definitely try that when I get the chance to. Thank you!:D
