I have done multiple tourist missions now that I have been able to repeat the same bug. I separate all 5 Mark I Pods and land them with chutes within about 10km of each other. When they all touch down, you can not recover and have to exit the game and come back to recover each pod.

Hope that helps you squash a bug!
