Balancing Act

Has anyone found a decent way to balance the heating values to offer a bit more of a challenge? I feel heating even turned up to 120% isn't terribly challenging.

Or am I the only one who's feeling a lack of challenge?

Don't get me wrong, I love the update. I just like to challenge myself.

I've fiddled with the physics config a bit, but no matter what I do unless I drop straight into the atmosphere at 3,000 m/s I can't seem to use up the heatshield. I know re-using them isn't an option, but they're so pristine after re entry I'm worried Jeb might try :0.0:

I'm sure balancing will work itself out in the future, but if anyone has dove into part configs and tweaking the physics I'd like your input.

re-entry heating is currently a joke.. you don't even need heat shields to re-enter kerbin.. more so with the 1.0.2 update.. the pod itself (without a heat shield) heats slower & peaks at a lower temperature than the heat shield. Thats with 120% re-entry heating. I did however managed to reach a resonable re-entry effect previously in 1.0, but 1.0.2 made sure to change that

Wait for RSS, then use an RSS config (say 6.4X). Heck, even 2X could matter. This was all known, anything like a reasonable aero model, and either Kerbin gets bigger, or things don't work right.

No problem. Let me know if you can reach a sensible configuration regarding re-entry.. if you decide to fiddle with the settings.
