Contracts for career mode

Recommended Posts

My biggest problem with career mode is having to do the same type contracts over and over again to fund your program. The first couple of times they can be fun but can become just a tedious chore that needs to be done to fund your program.

Personally I think contracts should be only given out once or twice and pay out more. They should be given slightly before you have the tech to do it easily to challenge a player to come up with a design.

As an example for the sat contracts:

Contract to be put in a rather LKO and allow more deviation from the contract requirements

Contract for a esentric orbit and having to be more precise with the orbit

Contract for geosync orbit

Contract to place sats with LOS of certain points on Kerbin at all times.

Contracts for putting up a sat linked to your scince parts tech level. Unlock the thermometer you get a contract to put a sat up with one attached, same with the scanning parts.

After you complete each you will no longer get sat contracts for Kerbin and rinse and repeat with all other bodies in kerbin and contracts.

A suggestion for space station contracts is they should be more long term expansion and support minded.

The 1st condition for the contract can be it must hold 5 Kerbals, have comunications, generate a certain amount of power, docking port, and mystery goo container. Once complete you get rewarded just like say the explore mun contract when you do not complete it but get rewarded for completing part of it.

The contract then can have objectives to expand the base with the progression of the tech tree in mind. As the player unlocks the tree they can complete another step in the contract and have the fun of designing and expanding a space station.

Doing the above should help with not turning the game into grinding the same contracts to fund upgrades, hiring kerbonauts and missions.

Edit: I also like the idea someone had about getting automatic funding each month based on reputation. This again will give the player a little more choice as how they want to play.

I could not agree more we need more satellite contracts

I would also suggest moving the ore scanner closer to the beginning of the tech tree so we could get ore scanning contracts and that also then reserves the drilling and harvesting of the ore till later game

I would never willingly buy a sandbox game which allows you to run out of content in this fashion. Why would I want to play KSP if my reward for progressing through the game is to have less things I can afford to do?

The contracts would pay more since there would be a limited number, encourage players to push beyond Kerbin and it's moons, take away grinding contracts to fund your program and allow players the funds to do more of what they want instead repeating the same contracts. If a player completes all the contracts then they could get automatic funding each month to do as they will with it. The funding could be based on rep, the more kerbals killed the less funds you would get. The more crews returned safely the more money you get. Eventually it would get to a point that funding is no longer an issue and allow players to build as large and complete as grand goals as they want.

i back this up, contracts should not vanish, maybe there could be an option to deactivate certain types of contracts for certain bodies, i personally like satellite contracts, as it is a major part for todays space agencies as well. kerbin is currently filling with satellites really nice :)

keep in mind that not everyone want's to go beyond kerbin, mun and minmus, but more options regarding contracts, more contract types and monthly funds are definitely something i support :)
