LV-909 not running at full power

Recommended Posts

So this is an odd one, or I'm being really thick and missing something obvious!

Just started a new craft (career save in 1.0.2) and went to test the lander part, but the engines (3 LV-909s) where not running at full power. Throttle is up full and no thrust limits are set.

So I made a new simple test craft incase my odd lander design was the cause, but even this very simple test has the same result. You can see the amount of flame coming out is less than expected when at full throttle. 2nd pic has the context menu open so you can see the thrust isn't being limited.

Odd thing is I just did a mission to Mun and back and the 909 was working fine. Here's a pic of that lander with the 909 working as expected;

Other engines seem to be working ok;

I've tried fiddling with the thrust slider to see if that would reset it. There is no apparent change in engine output until I limit it right down to almost nothing. The rest of the slider has no effect to either the flame animation or the engines sound effect. It looks and sounds like its on very low thrust. The slider does change the thrust values shown in the menu, but im unsure of that is actually what the engine is giving.

I've restarted KSP and I've tried it in another save (in the same install).

I've restarted my machine.

I've installed a fresh copy of 1.0.2 and (without changing any settings away from default) started a new sandbox save.

In all cases the 909 seems to be running at very low thrust.

But I still have a copy of 1.0.0 installed and in that the 909 is functioning as expected.

So, this just happened. On one mission it was working ok, then it just starting acting up. The fact that installing a fresh copy of KSP has the same effect is truly strange! That means its something global. Very puzzled!! Any insights?

If you look at the part in the VAB/SPH/R&D and do the right click for more info, you'll see it tells you the thrust at two pressures - ASL (sea level) and VAC (vacuum). The 909 does sweet FA in any form of atmosphere. And also did you see how bad the ISP was in the picture you have testing the 909?

With the current version of KSP you need to pay attention to what the pressure environment will be when you use the engine.

isn't this from the new isp and atmo pressure changes? all engines produce less thrust in atmo then in space. it's my understanding the 909 produces 0 thrust on Eve.

ah, I see. thanks guys (I feel kinda dumb). So was this change made in the 1.0.1 patch then? (as it was as expected in 1.0). I don't see it mentioned in the 1.0.1 change log. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/1.0.1
