Can't seem to land any MK3 style planes?

After 1.0 came out i thought i'd have a go at KSP since i played it a few months ago.

And though careermode is awesome and in sandbox i created and flew quite a set of different ships and planes, i noticed something weird.

Every plane i made with the large Mk3 shuttle parts seems to have big issues surviving a landing.

For some reason the sections just come apart upon touching down.

I tried scaling down my Mk3 planes to see if that would make a difference, though even with a "small" 4 part hull it still seems to just disintegrate upon touching down.

Here is the "smallest" MK3 plane i built, tried extra landing gear, only fuel in the wings and the "endcap" and having a empty utility bay. but it still seems to come apart when landing like it's made out of porcelain.

Does anybody have some tips on increasing the survivability of these gigantic jets?

there was an issue with mk3 joint strength I heard, but I thought that was fixed.

MOAR struts! In this case it even applies. You need struts to transmit the landing forces around and keep it together, since the mk3 joints are very week as r4pt0r said above. Another option is to use the Claw's bug fix mod that is stickied in the add-on releases forum.

Yeah Mk3 parts don't connect very strongly. Use struts between them to help. Also those big landing wheels are cool but I don't think they have any suspension whatsoever and landings can be hard which seems a bit daft considering they are supposed to be used fro larger heaver craft. You can always connect the big wheels to I-beam pieces as they flex under load and give a suspension like effect.

There is a fix for that in the stock bug fixes plugin. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/97285-0-25-Stock-Bug-Fix-Modules

It sets the joint strength higher, essentially.

Nice to know it wasn't just my landing skills failing like crazy

Its weird that the big landing wheels dont have any suspension, i would expect those giant telescopic pistons to cushion the huge weight of the large crafts they are putting on the ground.

There is a lot of clearance and room for travel with these new big landing gears.

Try Kerbal Joint Reinforcement.

Apart from preventing some Kraken Attacks, it helps to keep your larger creations together.
