SCANSat grey lines?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, and excuse a stupid question, yet im not understanding this. Ive sent a probe up around Kerbin, Polar orbit with plenty of solar panels, batteries etc and a MULTISPECTRAL SENSOR, set it in orbit at 250K and the scan starts correctly with an ideal orbit height, yet the data it shows in the map consists purely of grey lines with no info? what is it im doing wrong?

(I want to see the Easter eggs :) I would like to land next to a Mun arch)

You have to wait for it to scan. It will only uncover the area under your orbit. I don't know what the correct altitude is but a polar orbit is best as you will cover the whole planet/moon with just one probe.

ive had it scan to 100%, yet it only shows grey. when the red line moves upwards and my scan is updated, it just shows a grey line, and ive seen enough videos on YouTube for example to know this is not correct?

btw, 250K is an "optimal" height according to the mod info

Are you sure it is in the correct mode? Some scanners only do height maps and others do bioms.

Yes. I chose what scanner to use this morning as all i want to find is the anomilies. Do I need anything else on my probe other than the scanner itself? And thankyou for your time :)

I am not sure how to help, i used Scansat my self in 0.90 and it worked fine. Maybe you need to have an antenna to transmit back data. Also try timewarp for a while to see if it uncovers some of the map.

If all else doesn't work try use a different scanner to see it that works.

Also have you got the latest version installed for 1.02? If not you can get it here

yes i have the lates 1.0.2 version downloaded today. One thing i dont have is an antenna, could this be the problem? If so, which one should I use IYO?

I don't know if the antenna is the problem but i suppose it is worth a try. I don't think which one you use matters but use a stock anntena to be sure.

Which map are you talking about ? the small or the big one ? Is there a chance you have change display settings ? I'm not sure about the small map, but the big one can be set to display other bodies, Mun for the instance (and if you have no map data form Mun yet it shows gray). It could be also set to display either altimetry, slope, and biomes. If you have it set do display biome and have only data from altimetry scanner then it would show gray as there is no biome data.

I think that it could be set do display altimetry data by default, and if you have used multispectral sensor right away, without using altimetry sensor before, you may have to change settings to display biome data. Altimetry sensor marks anomalies as well so you can try to use it to find their locations.
