Jool fuel station

I set this up in advance of exploring Jool's moons in my career game. It's a bit ramshackle, but it all works fine. That's a class D asteroid over 700t. I wonder how many missions I can run before this fuel depot runs dry?

That's actually two ships joined by a claw (hence the weird angle). The one on the left was the tug I used to bring the asteroid to Jool from Dres orbit. The one attached to the asteroid I brought in later to do the mining. The mining one didn't have a docking port, so I moved the tug around and attached it so that other ships would be able to come and dock for fuel.

Kerbals have warranties on their stuff??? For how much they like to blow things up, I'd never imagine the part corporations willing to guarantee anything.

Anyway, better the engine bell than one of the solar arrays, it's a bit more sturdy.

Yes, they do in fact, 3 minute warranties guaranteeing a 50/50 chance of sudden detonation during launch sequences. :)

It was very wobbly and had very long burn times because the TWR was so poor. I had to detach and re-attach a few times to make sure I was still pointing through the asteroid's CoM. The DV wasn't as bad coming from Dres than it would have been coming from Kerbin. I relied more on SAS to turn than engine gimbals, I had like 4 of the 2.5m reaction wheels on the tug.

This whole thing started when I found a contract to "Bring a newly discovered Class D asteroid into orbit around Jool". I saw that and realized it would make for a good fuel station. The contract paid 2,100,000 funds which was very nice indeed.
