NASA NAUTILUS-X - Replica of proposed spacecraft; repurposed as an Ore carrier

Recommended Posts

1.jpg

This is a replica of the interplanetary spacecraft proposed by Mark Holderman and Edward Henderson of the Technology Applications Assessment Team of NASA.

This one has been repurposed as an ore transport and carries two Planetary Excursion Science Pods within its two docking bays.

It just about holds together on the surface but you’ll still probably need to edit/cheat it into orbit. I have not attempted to stick this on a launcher but would love to see someone try!

It could probably do with some struts but I wanted to keep the part count as low as possible. Wobble is pretty minimal regardless.

Rep+!

These are incredible, all of them!

I'll download ASAP, my new Laythe mining system needs a transport. I'll drop off the pods at the station.

This also can carry some light cargo!

Great work!

Thank you both for your kind comments!

DMSP, I fear the Nautilus may have too low a TWR for you - at .10 it's not exactly fast! Still, if you find a new purpose for it I'd love to see what you do.

.10 TWR is fine! I can handle long burns!

C'ya at Laythe!

I'm very glad you are enjoying the craft DMSP; never have I had such a response to one of my creations.

I'm quite interested to hear about your cargo/mining operations!

I'll get photos ASAP.

It's sad that these don't get more attention.
