Turbulence?

Sometimes when I'm in level flight in my plane not touching any controls, but with SAS on, I'll feel a bump and the screen will shake. Maybe it's an illusion or my bad eyesight but for an instant I think I see a little puff of smoke whizzing past. It seems to happen a lot more when the time warp is at it's fastest. I've had my planes shake apart this way actually while simply cruising. What's going on?

OK, I wasn't crazy! I saw the same thing the other day when I was trying to fly to some remote spot for temp readings. Far away so was also time-accelerating.

I was so surprised by it that I swung the camera around to see if I passed a little balloon or something.

Seen this all the time, and I assume it's intentional at this point. Puff of smoke, slight shake, plane often changes direction very slightly.

As far as I know, it's intentional.

Well that would just be plain ol' physics warp issues.

One solution is to install Kerbal Joint Reinfrocement, which basically puts invisible cement between the parts (they won't snap off as easily)

Mine does this too. Is the plane breaking the sound barrier?

If I remember right, passing an altitude changes the planetary model because of the LOD system. I know in previous versions there used to be a slight shake and smoke puffs (misplaced engine exhaust) at something like 6000 metres up.
