Please help me save a tourist.

Recommended Posts

I took a tourist on a trip to The Mun, but got stuck in an circular orbit at 25 km and only 178 m/s DeltaV left. So I sent in a rescue craft but I was only able to recover the pilot and the engineer, apparently the tourist doesn't enjoy a spacewalk. I can't land the craft on the surface neither can I send it back to Kerbin and there are no docking ports on it. Using TAC life support, I have 350 days left to save my tourist. If only I could figure out how.

Any ideas?

If you have the advanced grabbing unit (but I think that's pretty far down the line), you can transfer fuel or crew while clamped on.

A mod solution would be Kerbal Attachment System (not officially updated for 1.0.2 but reportedly works despite it's warning), which has "pipe" parts you can attach from one vessel to another while on EVA, then transfer fuel that way.

I got into some trouble once like that. Pushing the craft on EVA allowed me to get back into Kerbin's atmosphere. Hopefully you still have parachutes on it. The reentry heating model is massively underpowered right now, so almost anything can survive reentry. You will want your pilot and engineer back on the craft, the pilot for stabilizing while the engineer pushes. Once your periapsis is under 70k, you'll slow down quite a lot and won't have to push any more.

Good that you're going with the klaw, but in case anyone else sees this I want to warn them off using KAS's pipes in any kind of orbit. It tends to lead to violent shaking and kersplosions. You can, however, use the winches to good effect.

Chutes are of course intact, but I'd rather go with a "more realistic" rescue mission. Pushing a rocket from EVA doesn't do it for me.

Indeed the re-entry sadly is kinda weak :(
