I think I read somewhere that the Falcon 9 could take off with as few as 7 engines, but they didn\'t want to risk it and just delayed.

It does have engine-out capability, not quite sure how many it can go without, but it would take longer to get to orbit with fewer - and since this was a rendezvous with ISS they wouldn\'t have made it in time.

It can reach orbit with 7 but only after the first 30seconds of flight. It needs all 9 for lift off. It was on nasaspaceflight.com on there L2 section
