KSP and Dvorak...

Hmm... still finding my way around the forums, not really sure quite where to ask this, so...

Question: How do I reset all the key bindings? (Do I need to reinstall the game?)

Background:

The reason I ask is that I use a Dvorak keyboard layout, not a Sholes ('QWERTY') one. As a result, I've been spending a lot of time in 'Settings', reconfiguring the key bindings. And I've been encountering Some Strange Things[1]. I'm currently planning to plug in a Sholes layout keyboard just for use with KSP -- but for that to make sense, I'd have to undo all of the (many) key bindings changes I've made...

Thanks for any help you're able to provide.

___

[1] for instance:

+ settings claims that the 'take snapshot' key is 'F1' -- but it's not; it's F12 (?)

+ the 'space' key is set (by default) in [settings > Input > Flight > Other] for both 'Launch/ Stages' and 'Switch Translation/Rotation'. Given that the 'space' key tends to break the ship into bits at various points in a mission, when I first saw the overload on this key I thought 'that's scary'[2]. And although the UI seems to imply that it should be possible to select which modes the space key works in, the pretty 'Use in Mode' lights, while they go out when I click on them and click 'Accept', they don't actually stay unlit: when I go and look at them again, they're still shining brightly.

[2] ... and I was right to be afraid: after completing the 'Orbiting 101' training mission -- after the point Gene Kerman leaves me to my own devices -- switching to 'Docking' mode and pressing space twice both toggles the 'control mode' and separates the capsule from the engine. In space, nodoby can hear the kerbals scream...

PS

Version info:

KSP v1.0.2.842 via Steam

Windoze 8.1

If you're wanting to reset all control bindings to default, open up your KSP_Win folder (if you have steam then you can ask someone how to get to that) and at the bottom there will be a settings.cfg. delete that and restart the game. The game will generate a new settings.cfg and it will be default.

Thank you. I owe you a pint!

FYI there was no KSP_Win folder. I found settings.cfg in \Steam\SteamApps\common\Kerbal Space Program\ , renamed it settings.cfg.old, restarted, and a new settings.cfg was created, just as you said it would be :)

Interestingly, several of the 'Input' key settings are now different. Most notably, the 'Use in Mode' on/off 'lights' for the 'space' key aren't all now on (prior to this reset, they were all on -- hence the disastrous mission I referred to above -- and I'm almost positive I've never successfully changed any of those 'lights' at any point). So perhaps the Steam update system left some garbage behind from my earlier version. I note that the readme.txt (in the same directory folder) says 'Completely revised Input Mapping system' as of v1.0.0.

Maybe this would be of interest to other Steam and/or Dvorak users.

Thanks again!

PS screenshot is still on F12 though... weird

Steam screenshots (for every game) use F12 by default, KSP also comes with it's own screenshot system (which puts it in it's own directory), for non-steam users mostly, which uses F1.

Thanks. Didn't know that! :)

Yeah, I said "if you use steam there's another way" I was meaning Going through the steam folder, or right clicking on KSP in your library and hitting properties and the location. :)
