why can't I turn off surface fx?

Recommended Posts

When I disable it, and press accept, or apply and accept, or any combination of those and return to the settings menu, or return to playing the game, surface FX is still enabled?? I need to turn it off as I can't continue playing with the frame rate being so low! (on my terrible laptop)

Any help, workaround, or fix would be great! Thanks all, this game ROCKS!

I'm specifically talking about the "Surface FX" setting. It's not in the terrain section.

And I tried restarting the game even still, doesn't work Surface FX will toggle itself on immediately after closing "settings"

Just a brainwave: Do you have 'permission' to chance the corresponding files? It's possible the relevant KSP files are read only or require admin access.

Hey, I manually increased permissions for all of the settings to full control, but when I turn off "read-only" it goes through the process, but when I click again on properties it is still "read-only." Anyone know if this is what is causing my problem with Surface FX, and how to fix it??? Thanks! Love this game and this community.

The "trench flame/smoke" I believe is from the "surface FX" option that I am struggling to turn off.

Ah SO! I figured out that you can change the "settings.cfg" file in WordPad and edit the following lines to change the default setting manually:

SURFACE_FX = True

to

SURFACE_FX = False

Does it actually disable them?

(When I tried it through the game options panel, it says it is off, and stays "off" as a button, but the effects persist.)
