How long will I be able to download KSP?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how long I will be able to download a fresh version of KSP? I keep fatally injuring my game with mods and a few times I've had to resort to a complete reinstallation of KSP...

I've had KSP since 0.20. Got it from the KSP homepage. Always been able to download a fresh copy. As long as you have your information from when you got it and where (KSP Homepage, Steam, ect...) them you should be able to get a fresh copy of the latest version when ever you need to. Since I run a lot of mods, I find i need to do a fresh install on occasion do to game corruption cause I messed something up on the install of said mods. For that I just keep the original download of the installer or the zip somewhere on my computer.

one other question... I used the launcher to see if my fave mods had been updated and I saw a very quick "updating" banner and when I went into the game data folder I saw a zip folder named "update" there with nothing in it...when I tried to extract it said I have to put something in the zip before I could extract.

Unfortunantly I can't help you with that one. I have always just grabbed the latest version on the home page and have never used the launcher itself, instead just useing KSP.exe to start my game. Off the top of my head tho I don't think the launcher itself checks for mod updates, just updates to the core game. I just troll the forum here and watch for updates on the mods I like. Here is usually a good place to start tho if you are looking for updates.

Then how about not installing mods to the installation folder but copying the whole installation and modding that copy to death? :P

I'm not clear on what you mean. My current method to add a mod is: download, unzip, copy unzipped gamedata folder (or whatever the instuctions say in the "read me"), paste into KSP win folder, resolve conflicts...

And you could make a copy of the whole ksp folder before adding any mods and use that copy instead of the original (or keep it as a backup).
