Determining elevation of surface

Good evening,

is there a way to determine how much the surface is elevated at a specific place?

For example: If I want to land on Mün, how do I know what hight the surface is?

In a manned rocket there is an altimeter in IVA that shows altitude above the ground level. For a probe the only way to know your actual altitude (as I know) is to install a mod such as Kerbal Engineer Redux.
