I have had Kerbal Space Program for about a month now, but I've decided to get a move on and join the forum!

Any tips for maneuvering in the atmosphere with mainsails? I spin out almost every time.

Yes: do not move to quickly, have SAS on (hit "T"), and try placing fixed or dynamic fins near the base of your craft.

Srsly, I'd try adding fins at the bottom of your rocket, and checking where your CoM and CoL are. Unless it's a plane, in which case all bets are off.

To maneuver a large rocket - use larger fins, the idea is to keep the center of lift well behind your CoM for rockets.
