1.0 for Windows released too early?

Recommended Posts

It was great, in terms of bug fixes.

And the the heat bars are optional gameplay mechanics. They aren't essential to the game... And they have the biggest bug since 1.0.0.

The fairings are a bit quirky, though.

Then they should have them left out instead of left them in not working?

You can be critical of something you love, you don't have to make up excuses for it.

I'm not making up excuses. It's in the best state since I started playing, in 2012. That's true.

Not everybody has the same computer, or the same programs, so if something is going wrong, don't always immediately blame the game, look for errors in every possible thing... Maybe it's the graphics card, or the processor, or maybe it is the game.

Basically, there are so many points where a failure can happen, that the game being the one where it happens might not be true. However, there are known bugs, such as the case with heat bars.

I don't really understand the point of threads like this (and there have been several of them, not meaning to single out the OP). Whether KSP was ready for 1.0 or not is a moot point, they can't go back to early access any more than they could unring a bell. There is literally nothing that can be done about it.

I entirely agree with you. It's also extremely silly because the result would have been the same regardless of whether this was "1.0 release" or "0.91 beta". It makes absolutely no difference to the end result whether they call it beta or release. Release just opens some sales and marketing doors for them, but the end user still gets the same game to play. If this release had been called a beta, you would experience 100% of the same issues from exactly the same set of features, with exactly the same chance of anything getting fixed in the short, medium, and long term.

0.91 beta would have got the same hot fixes, and the same schedule for the next release.

It's done, get over it, move on, it really does not matter, and nothing can or will change. The endless whining on the forum is not achieving anything, and it will never achieve anything, it's 100% pointless. Overall, KSP 1.0 is of higher quality than the first full release of many games released by major developers with decades of experience. Squad scored higher than is typical for the industry.

For what it's worth, I don't appear to have any obvious memory leaks with 1.0.2, certainly no high rate leak, and I have the temp gauges enabled, frequently see them, and am glad they were added. They were very much needed, as 1.0 with no temp warning was too annoying. It might be a Windows-only problem, I'm on OS X. Is the problem serious enough that it needs an urgent hot fix? I honestly don't know. From where I sit, the problem does not even exist (which doesn't mean it's not real, I've just not seen even the tiniest bit of evidence to support its existence, despite a large amount of play time on 1.0.2).

If that is why it is pointless and silly then it is neither, because it would in fact have been different wrt people's expectations (finished vs not finished), and wrt price.

It can not be undone, but i think people would like some kind of acknowledgment that the 1.0 release was less than ideal. Otoh Squad has acknowledge that the game is not finished, by saying in a recent Squadcast that they will now be working on getting ksp to its "proper completion". So they are fully aware the release version is not properly complete.

Even though KSP/Squad is by far not the worst offender, with it Squad contributes to a bad habit that the games industry is developing: to release buggy unfinished products and ask full price.

Fortunately the issues that KSP has are not the sort that one runs into during the time that the average reviewer spends on it. I don't think any of them have noticed that one of the spiffy new features -reentry heat- is in effect missing. Also the arguably essential delta-v readout did not make it.
