I stumbled upon this video on youtube. I suppose if you watch enough space AND KSP videos the recommendation will start to merge. What do you guys think of this idea? Is it cool? Is it smart? Is it too Kerbal? Discuss.

The best stations in realistic sci-fi aren't module-by-module canisters of people and science experiments like the ISS or Mir, but instead rotating wheel stations. For extra retro-points, here: https://youtu.be/nY34CvNQ3hQ?

The External-Tank modification is based on the "Wet Workshop" idea. There are a few old mods that do Wet Workshops, based on the concept of using a Saturn V upper stage and turning it into a station (Skylab meanwhile was also built and is a Saturn V upper stage that is been retrofitted on the ground instead of space)

The unrealistic and Kerbal part of this video is the ambition and how few people are working on this. It's a solid concept scientifically as far as my short skim through it.

Bigelow has a similar project in mind, realized with inflatable modules.

In the early days of ISS, there was supposed to have a rotating ring for artificial gravity, but then was cancelled due to economical reason.

So, not so much sci-fi, just not again made...

I have no problem with the design. The kerbal thing and what I was getting at is the ambition as you mentioned and what the station looks like at the end.

Tell me that doesn't look like a KSP screenshot?

Well, it's clear to understand why this failed to launch (video is from from 2008). In the video they said the video gaming industry would be their best promoters. KSP wasn't available then. Maybe they should try now. They could even use KSP for testing. Save a few more bucks on those pesty engineers and rocket scientists.
