Not sure if bug or hit the wrong button: part rotates around joint (intended behavior after all)

Recommended Posts

Hi, has anyone run across this in the editors?

5S3iGX9.png

I'm not sure if it's a bug or I hit the wrong button.

Attempting to rotate the attached part centers the rotation around the joint, not the part being rotated. This also happens if the part is stack-attached.

How does one restore the center of the rotation to the center of the part?

As I'm not sure what caused this, I've decided to post it as a gameplay question, just in case it was an inadvertent command. If it's a bug, either in stock or due to mod conflict, I will gladly provide any additional information that may be needed--and be open to seeing this post moved to the appropriate forum.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

You can't. If I recall correctly, all the parts rotate around a joint, not the center of the part. If it's annoying you, I'd use offset to correct it.

Yea, I rechecked with another 1.0.2 install. It's natural.

I was wondering why I could rotate some fuselage parts about their axis before (when I wanted to move a side-attached Mk1 fuselage so its intake was below, for example). I forget too easily sometimes--they were attacked nodally to another part (e.g., fuel tank) that was side surf-attached to the root. So when I rotated the fuselage, it rotated about its axis, because that was where its joint was.

I guess I wasn't too aware of this, having to concentrate usually on one plane of rotation at a time. And the times I had to manipulate multiple planes in a given run, it was a part whose joint is within/at the center of the part: the single-port RCS thruster (since it sinks into the part it attaches to).

Thanks, Dman. I can let this go now. :)
