Turning Radial Decouplers into Fuel Ducts (with Module Manager)

Recommended Posts

This is something I've been thinking about for some time now--since 0.90 hit, I've noticed that fuel ducts fail probably 75% (or more) of the time in my installations.

What happens is that I have fuel ducts set up in the VAB for a given rocket, but when the rocket is "manifested" onto the launch pad, those ducts are disconnected. In other words, they're not procedurally (or however) generated to actually connect two tanks, making them completely useless (except for a tiny slowdown in framerate, I guess).

I've long since abandoned trying to fix this issue. I haven't seen any mention of it on the forums (it doesn't help that the words "fuel" and "duct" are very, very common). There doesn't seem to be any coherent pattern--sometimes, fuel ducts will actually be modeled correctly, sometimes after loading a space craft from save, sometimes from the VAB, sometimes not. It seems more common an error in larger spacecraft, but I've seen it happen to small ones.

What I'm left wondering is--how difficult would it be to use Module Manager to take the particular function from fuel ducts (for me, a buggy, irritating part to deal with) and simply apply it to any radial decoupler (rather than all decouplers, as that could wreak havoc on staging). Ideally, the option would exist to turn it off as desired in the VAB, but all in all, even "universally on" seems less a pain to deal with than fuel ducts that don't model correctly 3/4 or more of the time.

Any help would be appreciated--hopefully this is the right place to mention this (I considered putting it under 'Suggestions', but it seems like this would alter the vanilla game model enough to be reserved as a mod).

You can try with

CrossFeedEnabler

Wow, thank you! I added the module manager entry under the individual parts (I'm not really familiar with how to create a new MM file), and that seemed to do the trick (though I need to re-add the "updated" decouplers).

Is there some way to remove the message "NO FUEL CROSSFEED" in the part tooltip? You've already helped me out, but I hope there's no harm in asking.
