My ship got eaten at sea. Eaten, I tell ye!

Recommended Posts

I was at work till the wee hours of the morning and I took the liberty of being the troop's Morale Officer and showing KSP to people. Many a curious onlooker came by to check out what all the talk of delta v, twr, gravity assists and nuklear wessels were all about.

I would just pout and show them my X-2 micro shuttle slingshotting around the back side of the Mun 2 kilometers over the munar surface. hehehee.

During a skydiving demonstration where an "EVA Report Inflight Over Kerbin's Water" resulted in said EVA reporter plummeting 10,000 ft into the water near a fishing vessel, I discovered something odd about said fishing boat.

It was being pulled underwater at an alarming speed and spat out so violently nearly everyone aboard was thrown free of the wreckage.

Someone call 911? Or should I call International Rescue?

I had the exact thing happen to me! Several times! One in a similar ship like yours, and two other instances with my Laythe sea base. It seems it likes to happen either when you initiate timewarp, or switch to the vessel either from the map or just regularly, I'm not totally sure. Curse you sea kraken!

I had this happen once, back in about 0.21 or so.

I was testing a way to refuel seaplanes on Laythe. I had a floating collection of fuel tanks, taxied the plane up to them, and connected them with a KAS cable (this was before there were KAS pipes). All went well at first but the cable didn't stop all relative movment, so during fueling one of the plane's wingtips clipped into one of the floating fuel tanks. I only noticed this just as I was disconnecting the hose, which basically made the wing spawn inside the fuel tank. Hilarity ensued :D.

That seaplane gif above is hilarious :D

Thanks. That justs shows the 1st few seconds. The tangle of fuel tanks and seaplane parts kept wrestling like that for a long time, slowly moving away, and eventually disappearing over the horizon, shedding the occational piece along the way. Fortunately, the cockpit broke off the plane fairly early so the test pilot was able to climb into that to await rescue :).

But that boat of yours is excellent! Do you have it uploaded somewhere? I'd like to examine it in detail and maybe build my own version.
